Pearl Lake

Just returned from a late March break at Pearl Lake.We hired a dog friendly caravan, which was as new, central heated,3 bedrooms 2 toilets, very clean and linen towels, duvets provided. If you are a golfer bowler or carp angler. then this site could be just right for you. The weather was perfect sunny and warm once early chill had subsided. I will not be returning however. I like to fish for a variety of fish, Carp lakes are ten a penny and there is no need to travel very far if you like carp fishing. Through no fault of the site owners Pearl lake is a carp only water. at only a few feet deep and crystal clear spring fed water , just perfect for the resident cormorants and I believe the odd otter. There are supposed to be some tench and the odd Bream. The few anglers I spoke to said they were very scarce One owner of a lakeside lodge said he fished all last year and only caught 7 fish. Oh I should mention there are some Pike to be caught, if they light your candle.The objective of our visit was to check out the touring site, I have to agree with some other reviews ,that space is limited and some noise is to be heard from the road that runs along the edge of the site.The site is a credit to its owners, its immaculate. the staff are helpful and friendly, and I have to say the other site visitors are also very friendly.I am not a golfer but the course appears to be scenic and well maintained .I was not a bowler, well I am now .as the fishing was poor.,the green is largeand again well maintained

i have to agree with Mr jones ref the fishing, i used the caravan touring site and was most impressed this was in the late 90s early 2000s. the local club used to have matches and any perch caught would be transported elswhere and there were perch aplenty, 120 an hour was common. i never fished for carp as i hate and detest commercial carp fisheries where everything is dedicated to carp forsaking other speices. i have caught roach over a pound from pearl lake pike to 14.5 lb no bream or tench never tried for them, the lake does contain specimen tench. the site itself is most certainly a five star site but be aware the club is only open weekends out of season and in holliday season most days. the site is in a area of outstanding beauty and well worth a visit. the owners and residents most friendly and welcoming.
