Mothecombe beach
I was actually on Coastguards beach, which is the dog friendly beach of the two (Mothercombe) beaches. You do need to catch the tide right, as the beach disappears at high tide. Also best to avoid after periods of heavy rain. With a low tide, my little dogs enjoyed a good run, while I enjoyed a paddle.Quite a steep walk back to the car, although it is possible to pick someone up from the bottom of the hill if necessary (I did this for one of my parents once). You cannot park next to the beach. The main Mothercombe beach is also lovely, although not for dogs. That beach has a nice walk down to it, and the beach remains, even at high tide.

Loved it! Decent parking and cheap parking as well. We have paid £6 for the whole day. Lovely beach, sandy and big when the tide is out.

Beautiful beach. Very unspoilt. Facilities are a bit of a walk away but that was manageable. Very good food close to the car park at the Schoolhouse. ( with toilets)

Great sandy local beach. Easy to get to from plymouth and big car park, which cost £6 for the day. There is toilets by the car park and a place to buy a snack and a warm drink to warm up in the winter months.

I'm posting this review alongside some mixed reviews which I guess suggests that we're all individuals with different thoughts and needs in life. We've visited this beach a few times on our most recent stay. In the evening (around 6.30) for some body boarding when there is no charge. And during the day when we had to pay £5 to park all day. There are facilities and a restaurant by the carpark. The beach is a 5 minute walk away down a fairly steep path but most should be fine with it. The beach is amazing, beautiful sand and views, it has a stream where kids love to build dams. Okay if you want an ice cream or food or to use the facilities you have to head back up but that is what makes this beach quieter than others and frankly I like a quieter beach. There is a good restaurant, with good food but it is not cheap, again there are other areas and beaches that can provide cheap food and closer parking but they are busier and not as beautiful. So I'd recommend this as one of Devon's best beaches, but then again that is just my view.

We love this beach, it's never too busy. Always friendly. The water in never out too far. Great fir rock pooling as well as body boarding for kids. Great family beach. Not suitable for people with mobility issues though as there's quite a steep walk down from the car park and obviously back up.

Beautiful sandy beach, with a car park walking distance. However there's alot of seaweed, if you looking for a quiter beach it's definitely the place to go.

Glorious day on Mothecombe beach. As others have said £5 to park in field, but lots of space. 5-10 min walk from car park to beach and it is pretty steep but no steps. No facilities on the beach, so stop first at the School House by the car park or take your own with you. Lovely sandy beach when the tide is out, shallow water made it brilliant for my sons first real swim in the sea. Lots of people paddleboarding, great atmosphere, not packed but busy.

Mothecombe beach
Sandy beach with some pebbles/rocks, lots of shallow parts so family friendly. Tide moves in and out quite a bit in the day. Quite a bit of seaweed when I visited but only in certain spots so not too in the way. Also spotted 2 jellyfish so be warned. Steep hill down to the beach from car park, which was £5 for the day. Cafe near carpark. Route for me to this beach involved some tiny country roads though
