Aros Castle
Can't say much about this place apart from it's fully overgrown. You try accessing it but it's not going to be easy.

Interesting ruin. Only parking for one car. Signs for circular walk. The walk very long.

The castle was probably built by one of the MacDougall Lords of Lorn in the 13th century and was once the major stronghold of the Lords of the Isles. It first comes on record in the later 14th century when it was in the possession of the Lords of the Isles. It appears to have been garrisoned by Argyll’s troops in 1690, though it was described two years previously as ‘ruinous, old, useless and never of any Strength’.

Ruined castle. Parking for one car beside the holiday cottages. Proceed down road to the right of the cottages, through some chickens, and you will see the castle among a forest of bracken. There is a sort of path but vegetation is head-high. Lots of nettles. Plants thin out once you are on higher ground. Castle itself is not safe to climb on but you get a great view of the surrounding landscape.

Great castle to visit. Have good footwear and be steady on your feet. Don't wear shorts!

Atmospheric old ruins, which you can walk around in a circular walk about 20 ft from castle, along the shore and back through lovely woods. 15 to 20 mins. Path is rough and muddy in places, it has not been maintained. Well worth it on a nice day. Don't get lost in woods as path is faint mid way.

A brilliant quick stop! This is a lovely small castle ruin which is beautifully overgrown.Follow the signs from the main road to Aros Mains. There is a very very small parking layby with room for 2 cars (this castle is owned on private land) which is signposted on the right. We were lucky to have it to ourselves both times we visited.Don't expect lots of information boards or upkeep - this is truly a ruin in all that it implies. But you can wander inside the small structure and get beautiful views across the coast. It also looks fabulous from across the water on the main road.
