I have had two Hip replacements done by a brilliant consultant surgeon, one in May this year and the other one was last Saturday. I would like to thank all the staff for a comfortable stay. I had a bit of banter with the anesastiis, the nurses, the carers the cleaners, the receptionist. the physios, the chemist the cooks, everyone. Thank you all. The Consultant Surgeon came in to see if everything was going well on Sunday after the Saturday opps. Happy Christmas to all that staff at Nuffield.Haxby York.

My mother has had two hip replacement’s in the past 6 months at the Nuffield hospital York. The environment and reception staff are brilliant. However, on both occasions, there have been particular members of the nursing team that have been extremely unprofessional and unsatisfactory.Upon the first visit, during my mother’s coming round from the anaesthetic, and been syringed morphine into her mouth without any consent , she was shouted at by a nurse over a misplaced pack of wet wipes, storming into the room saying DON’T YOU EVER ACCUSE ME OF STEALING! a formal complaint was made . And the senior nurse who dealt with the incident was very very good, and incomplete agreement that we should indeed go through all the Channels of the complaint system as the nurse in question’s behaviour was completely unacceptable. After the second procedure, 5 months later…I was visiting my mother a few hours after her operation.During this one hour period a nurse stormed into the room with a pace that can only be described as forceful, with a little paper cup, saying “here are some strong painkillers for you, what is your date of birth so I can administer them”After my mother’s adverse and non consensual administration of the morphine the first time round.I felt the need to stop and ask the nurse what exactly she was asking someone to put into their body without any explanation, description, or choice of consent.Let alone having the right to read through the possible side effects etc and make a learned decision. The medication they finally named , was none other than the opioid OxyContin. The second most addictive and devastating painkiller in the world, second only to fentanyl. There is a massive flaw in the system if we find it acceptable to tell somebody in a vulnerable position to put something in their body without explaining what it is. And without giving them the choice. There are COUNTLESS reasons why this is important. My mother was discharged within 24 hours of her first hip replacement. When she told the gentleman senior nurse , who was quite annoyed she wouldn’t swallow opioids on command, laughed at her when she said she was hoping to be home within 24 hours this time.Very very disappointing experience

I am reviewing this as I would for a 4* hotel with regard to overall experience. Even though it was only a two night stay my treatment before during and after the operation was relaxing and stress free. From my consultant to the numerous staff they were all helpful and friendly explaining everything to me at every stage. The room was quiet and comfortable and the food was excellent with a large choice to suit every taste. The only beef was that for someone who finds it difficult to get get to sleep, to have to wait until after midnight for everything to be prepared only to be woken up at 4am for routine check doesn’t help, but I guess this is common in all hospitals. Many thanks,Nick Mansell. If you don’t mind your CT scan being carried out in the back of a very cold truck which is parked externally near the main entrance then go ahead! No changing area in the truck, and yes, I kid you not it really is a truck! Read the instructions they send you carefully because they differ. Be aware there are no facilities for anyone you take with you either. Only saving grace are the receptionists. Go elsewhere if you can, you’re paying for this after all and trust me, its certainly not what I expected

My experience was rubbish. Payed almost £3000 to have varicose veins removed. Had been measured for special stockings which they then lost the prescription for. Had to wait 4, yes 4 hours after my appointment time to be seen. Was told I couldn't have general anesthetic. Done under local anesthetic. Extremely painful. Told by staff I was brave" Joke!!!!!"

Very pleased with the hospital and staff. My wife has had three very bad nose bleeds which our local hospital said was not serious enough to treat straight away even though we had to call for an ambulance because she had passed out and her blood pressure was very low. So she was told it would be 22 months to wait. She had an appointment at 3-10pm out by 3-30pm and the problem fixed.
