First visit and it was the ideal place to grab a hot drink and a delicious sandwich. Service was prompt, friendly and accommodating. Great little cafe in a historic location.

I came across this delightful little coffee stop on Christmas Day whilst walking the Walls. They had completely sold out of hot snacks so Brownie it was, a superb choice I have to say. The lemon drizzle cake looked fab too.So literally in the bottom of the wall at Bootham Bar, with seating indoors and out during better weather. It was lovely and warm, I had to remove a couple of layers to prevent me melting. There's a small but perfectly adequate toilet available for customers. The staff member/owner was super cheerful and helpful, very capable of engaging with the regulars and visitors. Would definitely visit again.

We visited the Bean & Gone coffee shop to grab a drink while exploring York and were impressed with our experience. The server greeted us, and it was very quiet at the time. We only had a drink but it was still nice to have a break from sightseeing to have a nice cold bottle of orange juice. This was spotted while I was exploring; there was a small window, and when I peered through it, it looked like a fully-fledged coffee shop, we went in, and there were plenty of chairs, and I saw someone with a laptop working away, and if I were local I would absolutely be a regular here.

Brilliant and very accommodating little cafe built into the city walls at Bootham Gate. Very reasonable prices and well worth visiting before traipsing around York. Enjoy. M

Friendliest cafe in York? Welcoming, down to earth atmosphere in historic location. Good grub: classics and specials. Happy mix of regulars and visitors.

12 noon and we were the only customers. This place feels lost. Tables not cleaned or cleared. Floor unsweetened. This is in a prime site and should have been full. The counter display poor. Ciabattas straight out of wholesalers box.

A beautifully quaint, city centre cafe, located opposite the Art Gallery, at the bottom of the Bootham Bar steps, which lead up to the Bar Walls in York. Hot breakfast and lunch options are available, + a range of hot drinks, which can contain flavoured syrups, if desired, + plenty of sweet treats to choose from too. All the food is cooked fresh to order, and brought over to the table by extremely friendly staff members. I would highly recommend the Bacon Buttie though - which could be rated as one of the best in York! Definitely worth a visit, + an added extra is that you can see some more ancient ruins of the Bar Walls through a glass floor within the premises. Recommended!
