The Jewel In The Crown
Lovely meal , some communication problems talking with staff. The restaurant itself needs some work done. Where we were sitting the walls were all marked with food splashes and spillages. The table had food stains on it ( table cloths would sort this) and the placemat was chipped and worn. Great food but could be so much more if attention to cleaning furniture and fixings was adhered too.

Had an amazing takeaway curry from here on our recent break. Great portion sizes and they were more than happy to tailor my chicken tikka korma to 'madras heat'. They played an absolute blinder in doing so: a perfect combination of moreish flavour and perspiration :D Thank you!

Very friendly and attentive staff especially the owner. The popadom and chutney tray pre-starter was excellent particularly the tamarind sauce. We asked if we could buy some of the tamarind sauce, they gave us two small tubs without charge. Our main courses were chicken Luari and prawn Rogan Josh with Pilau rice, both were large portions and delicious. We had no room for a desert. The cost was a very reasonable £17 pp with no service charge. We left a very well deserved tip.The Jewel In The Crown does not have an alcohol licence but customers are able to BYO. Glasses are provided and their is non corkage charge. There is a good range of non-alcoholic drinks. We live 100 miles from Castle Douglas so unfortunately will not be able to return to The Jewel In The Crown often. We will be back whenever we are in the area. The owner did tell us about an ex-employee who now has the Thai Valley restaurant in Selkirk. This is only 20 miles from home so we will be visiting soon, hoping it is as good as The Jewel In The Crown.

Enjoyed the food, we weren't that adventurous though and stuck to mild dishes as we were travelling through and didn't want to take too many risks, so cannot comment too much. My photo doesn't do it justice, and it tasted way better than it looked. Atmosphere is a bit bland, but the staff are attentive and had no issues with the service. It's a bring your own bottle kind of place.

Food was bland, not cheap either. Won't go again. I'd been looking forward to a meal from here, all week whilst we were on holiday but I was so disappointed

We had the meal for two takeaway (£22.95 August 2023) and we were definitely not disappointed. Loads of food of extremely good quality. The large lumps of chicken and lovely sauces (none too overpowering) made for an excellent meal. The kitchen even put what was gluten free and what wasn't (my wife is gluten intolerant) on ever dish. The staff are super friendly and the restaurant looked very clean and comfortable. If we visit this area again we are definitely going to order from them again. Thank you.

The food was amazing, and so was the service. There is a good range of vegetarian options. The Chutney tray is recommended, and so is the drink, Lassi. We left nice and full and satisfied.

Food was amazing. Staff very friendly and welcoming. We only had a main course, which neither of us could finish as we were so full. The quality of the food and taste was the best (and we come from Edinburgh with a wealth of Indian restaurants to choose from). Will definitely be back next time we are in the area.

We had a takeaway from here whilst on holiday. The food was genuinely delicious and you get great value for money. If I can make but one recommendation it would be that the interior decor felt dark and gloomy and the business would definitely benefit from a brighter more welcoming and updated colour scheme.
