Great Ryburgh St Andrew's Church
One of the most genuinely Christian churches I have been blessed to visit. We enjoyed a deeply moving and sincere welcome from members of the congregation, in a genuinely beautiful church.

Great Ryburgh St Andrew's Church
Visited this beautiful Church while taking the Trekkers walking group on part of the new Walsingham Way.We were made to feel so very welcome, with teas and coffees provided by the Church Warden and even a short History lesson!! They are so keen for any pilgrims walking the Walsingham Way to visit, you can even have your own pilgrim stamp! The Church is so very interesting, it is of Saxon origin and one of the traditional Norfolk Round Tower Churches. It is unusual in its shape as the crossing arms are virtually the same size as the Nave making it an actual cross formation rather than the usual cruciform shape. The amazing colours and decor within are absolutely amazing and gives an insight into how it would have looked in times gone by before the Reformation. There is a huge amount of information about the village and Church during the first and second world wars.Due to the age of the Church there is always restoration work to be done. There was some roof repairs being undertaken while we were there. So if visiting it is important to leave a donation and to try to support the events the Church organises to raise funds. This is certainly somewhere I plan to visit when out with any walking groups.

Great Ryburgh St Andrew's Church
A grand church for a village setting. St Andrew's is one of Norfolk's 133 round-towered churches. Much renovated in the early 20th century the rood cross is still in situ but the rood screen has been updated and now sits across the south transept. The transepts of this church are huge, one has an exhibition of the plans for the renovation which ran out of money and steam when the 1st world war broke out.
