Avoid this shop. Owner/staff member ran out of his shop to yell at a stag do who had stopped just outside and was verbally abusive and aggressive to them despite them moving on almost immediately, swearing at them until they were out of sight. The stag do did nothing to initiate any confrontation or enter the shop. Looking at other reviews, this seems to be a regular occurrence and I am surprised he did not attempt to assault someone such was the level of aggression. If this is how he treats the general public, I would advise you don't step foot in his shop

Went in on rainy day, although very careful to open a book I was very close to buying I was verbally abused too (as per the recent reviews) and told not to open it because I was wet.Sounding intoxicated or maybe just how the man was, I respected his rule but continued rambling on calling me stupid when I just looked. As I walked out not buying anything he carried on calling me stupid.Went to Forbidden Planet and Blackwell's. I was much happier

The store smelled bad, there was only a very small selection of comics and the guy behind the counter was very weird and not polite at all. I was watching a comic and he seemed mad I was looking into it. I really don't recommend going there. The only positive thing there was the dog and he was sleeping.

As someone who used to be a regular customer, it saddens me to say that this place is one of the worst comic shops in Scotland. Not because of its selection, but solely because of the owner.I was assaulted by Gafin for taking too long to pick the books I wanted to buy, because he was yearning to leave and go to the shop for more beer (as if he hadn’t had enough already). I was thrown out of the shop and called all sorts of slurs.I have had a lot of good times in this shop, especially when Gafin was off sick and someone else was covering. However I will never go back here after being assaulted.I used to get on okay with Gafin, we would talk about Scottish creators, and even on the day he assaulted me we were getting on well to begin with.I understand he may have been going through an emotional rough patch, but that is no excuse for assaulting customers or coming out with racist, sexist, homophobic, or just generally bigoted language. This shop has been on the decline for a long time, and it wouldn’t surprise me if it shuts in the next year or so. It’s truly a sad state of affairs. Edinburgh deserves a good comic shop, but Deadhead comics is not it.He likes to shout at people for damaging the comics in his shop, but he doesn’t actually keep a good clean shop to begin with. I remember one time finding an open packet of mayonnaise from over thee years ago in one of the boxes, and he had the cheek to say I was damaging books just by opening them.Avoid this place like the plague. Visit Emporium 62 or Elvis Shakespeare if you want some secondhand comics whilst in Edinburgh. You can rest assured that Emporium 62 and Elvis Shakespeare will never assault you or greet you with bigoted behaviour.Gafin is a violent and unstable person.Do not support him.

It said on their website they were open until 6. Got there at around 4:45. Closed sign. No other info. Some people were still inside. Not too bright for business. Guess the bad reviews had it right.

Wow. That was . . . something. Primarily modern books stored in a damp environment with aggressively rude staff. Dirty store with books haphazardly protected. If you need anything they're selling then change your needs. I never thought I'd say it but go to Forbidden Planet instead.

Rude staff. You’re not allowed to read, open, or look through the books. No, seriously.Got told off for looking inside a comic, was told it was ‘now second hand’. Apparently you can look at the front, read the back, and that’s it. I picked up one comic, got told off, and left immediately. Obviously not going back and damped my mood for a while actually.I had not read the reviews prior to going in, I just saw it and tried it because I like comics. But clearly the reviews are low. Some people say they’ve been assaulted, sworn at, or not even allowed to touch the books at all.

I’ll try to keep this short and to the point, which will hopefully help others. If you’d like to support an indie comic shop, think twice before stepping in here. I too had read reviews first but gave them the benefit of the doubt (my mistake). If you try to look at any of the comics, you will be verbally abused / accused of stealing. The shop reeks of smoke and yes there is a cute sleeping dog in the middle of it. Overall a very uncomfortable experience. I’m confused as to how these guys will ever make money when they treat people so rudely. There must have been other people running the place previously to account for the positive old reviews.. umm but it was definitely an ‘unforgettable experience’.
