I recently hired a small care from McNicolls in Edinburgh and had a very average experience.On arrival the car was filthy inside and out. Dust and mud splashed around bottom of the vehicle and mud literally caked into the drivers side footwell.Seems strange to me that they would not clean a vehicle between clients! They expected me to sign a form confirming the minor blemishes on the vehicle when the body of the car could not be properly assessed. The gentleman who did the inspection with me made it sound like he was doing me a solid by documenting the many scratches I found on the vehicle (after physically rubbing the mud off).Further to this, they had a sign on the front desk stimulating that customers would be charge a steam cleaning fee if extensive mud was left inside the car >>> ? but there was already caked on mud inside.The car was also not full of petrol on collection which I informed them off.Admittedly they gave the car a quick clean after I complained but it was still all a bit dodgy.The hire itself was very cost effective and there ended up being nil issues - I still would think twice about hiring from these guys again.

Pros - We had great experience with McNicoll Vehicle Hire (Edinburgh). The car was very neat, detailed explanation on insurance cover and very good vehicle inspection report. The petrol was next door and easy to fill back fuel on the day of return. Shuttle bus between Airport and Car Hire centre.Cons - Customer care number doesn't work on the mentioned times. We had to prebook airport pickup which we weren't aware and tried to reach customer care to get help but nobody picked up the call!!! So we had to use taxi to get to the car hire centre. But they offered free drop off to Airport on return.

Very good, cheerful service. The car was excellent, a hybrid (nice surprise), and, for those who care, not any more expensive for that OR for the automatic transmission. They went above and beyond in driving me to the airport, since after we got rear-ended in the suburbs of Edinburgh (we are fine) we had to go back to the office to fill out paperwork instead of turning in the car at the airport. McNicoll has offices in various places, but the one we hired our car from was close to our hotel, close to the Grassmarket and the Castle Terrace Car Park.

Amazing rental company! Very friendly and easy to deal with. The staff were lovely and efficient. No hidden costs and I got my bond back quickly. Highly recommended this company! Will use them again.

I recently rented a car from McNicoll vehicle hire in mid-February 2023 for a trip to Scotland, and I must say, the experience was absolutely fantastic. From start to finish, the process was made easy and stress-free thanks to the wonderful Depot manager, Rio Fielding.Rio was incredibly welcoming and reassuring, making me feel comfortable and confident with the rental process. This was my first time renting a car in Scotland, having travelled up from London to see the beauty of Scotland's nature. Rio was more than happy to recommend places to visit and offered some great advice on driving in Scotland.When we enquired about extending the rental, Rio was once again reassuring and offered us an incredible deal that exceeded our expectations. Her professionalism and attention to detail really made our experience with McNicoll vehicle hire an outstanding one.Overall, I cannot speak highly enough of McNicoll vehicle hire and the fantastic service provided by Rio Fielding. We rented the car in mid-February 2023 and they definitely gained a customer for life. We will definitely be returning to Scotland in the future and will be using McNicoll vehicle hire again without hesitation.

I had a great experience renting from McNicoll. Pick up and drop off were easy and simple. The car I received matched the specs I reserved online and I had no trouble with it. Staff were friendly, fast, and helpful. The price was very affordable even being in the peak of the travel season. I would recommend them to anyone!

This company is fantastic. It is so easy to hire from them. The staff are very friendly and accommodating and the hiring process is totally proficient. McNicoll Vehicle Hire is by far the best car rental company in town.

My daughter recommended McNicoll Vehicle Hire, as she has rented from them several times. The location is easy to access and the customer service was friendly and efficient. No problems returning the car. I wish there was an after-hours drop off option, but given the company's location I can understand why that's not the case. I would 100% recommend this company to anyone who asks.

As a young woman I find it can be a bit daunting hiring a car on my own as I’ve heard some horror stories of not getting deposits back or being charged a lot of extra money. But the experience I had with the Edinburgh branch was phenomenal! They were all so friendly, I never felt pressured or worried about anything. The car they gave me was excellent!! It was so easy to drive and was in top condition. It really made such a bit difference to my trip as I was able to explore Scotland at my own pace. Thank you very much again!

Hired a Ford Transit in November…. Easy booking…… fair price…… Rio was very helpful and friendly……. BUT…… the van was dirty inside and smelly, clearly smokers had been in it. The van floor was covered in what looked like soot and this marked up a mattress we were carrying……. when I mentioned this I was told they are ‘working vans’…. Well so are the competitors vans but they are clean and fresh…… need to do better McNicholls!
