Recently went with my son who hired a van from these guys. I remember my son booking the van in, and the lady that he spoke to was very friendly, and made sure he got exactly what he needed. Even picking up the van and dropping it off again was a very smooth experience. We'll done, and we will be back very soon.

Paid for a weekend hire for vehicle. Van broke down on Saturday afternoon. When I called Alpha they were totally unhelpful, and indeed lied about the vehicle which in fact had over 130,000 miles on the clock. End result was I paid for a weekend hire when could only use the van for less than 1 day. When I dropped the van off they said they would sort things out and refund some money, but no further communication or partial refund since - which demonstrates their true values.Decent hire rates, but old vehicles with too many miles, appalling customer service and a company that does not tell the truth. I won't be using them again

A Lesson Learned!I’ll start by saying that the car I rented was absolutely fine, and I had no problems with it. HOWEVER, please read on.There seems to be some confusion around deposit return at AHL Car/Van Hire, and looking at the other reviews it seems I’m not the first one to have this problem. When I collected my car at the beginning of October, I paid a deposit of £250. I was told twice by different members of staff that this deposit would be returned automatically within 7-10 working days. 10 working days came, and 10 working days went, with no sign of any money. ‘Time for a phone call,’ I thought, in my break at work. When I got through to someone (I believe her name was Janet, but the voicemail where she gave her name wasn’t very clear so that could be a mistake - apologies if so), I was correctly reminded that ‘today is the 10th working day,’ so I thought it fair to point out, ‘OK, but I still haven’t received my deposit back.’At this point, the lady on the end of the phone told me it was because I hadn’t provided my bank details… I had of course been told that the deposit would be returned automatically. This then led me to ask ‘well if you needed my bank details, how was I supposed to know that, and were you ever going to contact me about it?’ - I was then shouted at down the phone about how I was wrong for expecting my deposit to be returned automatically and that it was my responsibility, but they’d pass my details on to the accounts manager who was on her lunch break.Monday morning arrived, AHL were open for business once again, but still no sign of my deposit. ‘Time for another phone call,’ I thought. I eventually got through to Kim, the accounts manager who seemed much more reasonable. Kim told me that she wasn’t at work on the Friday at all because she’d been at a funeral… I suspect the other lady may have lied. Kim promised me that she would process the refund that day, 11 working days after the return of the car, but rightly informed me that it could take a few days to show up in my account. By the Monday after, (up to 16 working days by now), Kim said she’d check with the bank. After another phone call on Tuesday, Kim sent me a receipt from the card machine to show that the refund had been processed. She confessed ‘I will be honest with you, it was done at the end of last week’ - not what she had promised, but progress nonetheless.Now, I’d like to refer you to exhibit A - the part of the receipt where someone had scribbled ‘29’ over the date. After checking with my own bank, I asked Kim ‘what date does it say the deposit was processed on this receipt please, because it’s not quite clear?’‘29th’29th October was a Sunday, when AHL are closed - when I pointed this out, Kim then admitted that it was in fact done on the 30th.Yesterday I finally received my deposit back, 20 working days and 13 phone calls later. Bear this in mind when you consider renting from them, and definitely put that deposit on a credit card so your bank can do a chargeback if necessary!!
