Mow Cop Castle
Another National trust site, but free with a free small car park, not much left of it, but the views are great. The ridge, upon which the castle sits, forms the boundary between the counties of Cheshire and Staffordshire.Traces of a prehistoric camp have been found here. In 1754, Randle Wilbraham of nearby Rode Hall built an elaborate summerhouse looking like a medieval fortress and round tower. The area around the castle was nationally famous for the quarrying of high-quality millstones ('querns') for use in water mills. Excavations at Mow Cop have found querns dating back to the Iron Age.The Castle was given to the National Trust in 1937. That same year over ten thousand Methodists met on the hill to commemorate the first Primitive Methodist camp meeting there.Worth a visit if you're passing by, or on your way to another National trust place.

Mow Cop Castle
Great spot for photos and a small walk. Amazing sunset shots to be had here. You can drive most of the way. Just a small steep climb to reach the ruin.

Went during the week and no one there. Great place for a walk with views. Can see for miles when at the top. Took the dog as well and he enjoyed it. Little bit muddy tho so wear boots.

Mow Cop Castle
Gorgeous place. Well maintained by national trust. Bins provided, and area remains free of litter. Be aware of the time that the gates close for the car park but you can still walk up to the castle even when car park is closed.

Mow Cop Castle
A real gem of a find. There is an enjoyable walk from the botttom of the hill (albeit poorly marked) and when you reach the castle folly, you cannot help but be in awe of how it even got built. You are also be rewarded with the most spectacular views, which are equally extraordinary.

Mow Cop Castle
There are beautiful views across the fields and villages of England. Worth a visit for sure. The fortification itself (although it was a tower for the view) is nothing special, but the view is very beautiful. It is quite difficult to get there by car, narrow roads, potholes in some places.

Mow Cop Castle
Wonderful views on a clear day. Steep climb up, so not suitable for all. Small free carpark. Worth a visit with a picnic and flask of tea to just chill a while.

My first visit in 50 years. First of all, the parking is free, but parking spots are slightly limited. It's good to visit on a weekday if you can. It's still awesome to climb up the hill to look inside the castle. And the view..... stunning!
