Clearwater Paddling

Terrible (almost non existent) communication prior to activities. 1 activity was cancelled 4 hours after it was supposed to happen. The remaining activity was billed as a guided sea kayaking 'adventure'. but the guide (Chris) seemed to want to dawdle, presumably to fill the 2 hours, and the trip was in fact a painfully slow paddle around Castlebay and Vatersay causeway. It would probably benefit everyone if there was some competition for this company so that they were forced to try harder rather than take quite alot of money for a pre-school paddle around the bay. It was not an adventure, and it was not exciting. Very disappointed!

Fantastic experience. Knowledgeable and friendly team and group leader. Lots of local knowledge and experience made every day special. Great accommodation on shore. Nothing was too much trouble. Highly recommended.

Really couldn't recommend clearwater highly enough. I've been on kayaking and surfing days with them, and both exceeded expectations. When kayaking, the instructor was great at giving just the right enough of support, instruction and confidence building at the start, and little bits of coaching throughout, to enable me to go from complete beginner to confident and happy in the kayak for a day. Loved all the trips we did, and Chris (the instructors) eagle eyes ( and local knowledge) allowed us to see eagles, seals and sit and watch a family of otters playing on shore and in the water from our kayaks just meters away. And surfing was incredible fun- Chris managed to get all of us got to some kind of standing position on the board by the end of the session!

Visited and took part in a camping and kayaking trip (Wild Barra) August 2019. This included 5 1/2 days kayaking and 6 night's accommodation, which was a combination and of wild camping and staying in the lodge. The hosts were so welcoming and instantly made us feel at ease and at home.We went for the catered optioned, and I was really impressed with what was provided. They catered for my gluten free diet and I never had to worry about going hungry. Trip was well organised and the guides were amazing. Without doubt this is something I would do again.

Having known the team for years we have had multiple adventure trips with them. Fab and fun team in an amazing place! -Just don't ask the 'old man' to show you too many surfing tricks!Happy to recommend!

My husband, son and I had the most wonderful experience on the Wild Barra trip, which involved lots of amazing kayaking and three nights of wild camping in the most beautiful surroundings. Chris is an expert guide, able to tailor activities to suit mixed groups of seasoned and novice kayakers, and to respond flexibly to changes in tides and weather conditions. The business is family run, and Chris's children were fantastic assistant tour guides, while his wife Kate kept us all organised, even sorting out some mixed-up restaurant bookings for us while we were camping at Seal Bay, blissfully unaware that there was a problem. Would love to go again!

We had such a great time on the kayaking tour. The weather was perfect for it. The tour was 3hrs and we got to see some seals and some stunning views and spend time getting around the bay.The kayaks were in great condition and soon got the hang of it.Will definitely be back for more.

Absolutely LOVED our Barra multi-mix week and Chris was the ideal guide - his experience as an instructor and his incredible knowledge of the surrounding area and islands meant he was able to tailor our activities to suit the varied interests/experience of the group over the week, taking us to the best spots for the different activities and changing weather! It was a great fun mix of trips - kayaking, surfing, snorkelling, body-boarding, some lovely walks too around different parts of Barra and Vatersay. Chris' combination of experience and easygoing company made it such an easy, enjoyable and relaxed holiday. It was magical to be paddling so close to a family of otters playing in the water and on the rocks, get remarkably close to the grey and common seals, golden eagles, incredible sea life, and those idyllic clear turquoise waters & white sands are unforgettable. Great food, great craic, TERRIBLE jokes (which we loved), absolutely phenomenal part of the world, altogether wonderful holiday. Couldn't recommend highly enough.

Years later I still think about what an awesome trip this was to do. The weather will do it’s thing, can’t be helped, but we had a remarkable time, seeing sea otters, eagles, hundreds of seals up close, and thousands of angry oyster catchers. Great host and a really unique experience.
