The Hide Coffee House & Cafe
Lovely little cafe in a beautiful location. It's a great place to while away an hour with friends with a nice drink and excellent chocolate brownie. Staff are lovely, if perhaps not as fast as they could be at times but really not a problem. The setting is great and it's just a nice place to sit and enjoy the area. Would definitely recommend for a social visit to the flash.

Nice little cafe nestled in the Pennington flash park, staff are brilliant, had a nice coffee, the surroundings are nice , there is outside seating and there is a great choice in there, it's dig friendly and there is a place for dogs to get a drink, the toilets are situated behind the cafe and they are also well kept, was a bit worried when I asked about the location of a toilet and was told , you just go behind the cafe

I have bought ice cream 4 times from this place and whilst nearly £3.50 is expensive for a single ice cream the servers always gave one and a bit scoops more (like most ice cream places)I went today and was served by an older lady with a high ponytail serving at the hatch. I ordered strawberry ice cream with sprinkles for my daughter. Genuinely I could count the sprinkles on it, SO tight and a small scoop of ice cream.I ordered a waffle cone for my wife. The portion was barely a scoop, I said to the lady you're normally a bit more generous" and was told "that's the portion"I won't be bothering again. I'll just take a packed lunch. It's a shame that the little ice cream vans and donut places have been replaced by this faceless and careless cafe.Do yourself a favour and take a packed lunch and then go to Milk Maids instead (thank me later)Also the cafe was very VERY messy. The tables full of rubbish. All they are interested in is talking as much money as possible and that's it"

Disappointing. £3.75 for 2 small pieces of bacon on a dry bap, latte was just OK. Service being held up by 1 person managing 3 others. Love the recycling points & proximity to car park, water & kids play area. £5+ for a toasted sandwich. Scale of economy would sell more with happier customers providing better reviews if less expensive.

Such a shame, we were really looking forward to this opening, but we won’t be back in a hurry, would rather the hot food truck and ice cream van come back and that’s saying something! It’s horrendously over priced for inedible food, reheated and dehydrated bacon barm and a completely inedible £6.45 ham and cheese sourdough toastie, more expensive than anywhere else, it’s London/ service station prices for everything. They’ve got this place seriously wrong especially for the local community in so many ways, when you look at Pennington park compared to this place as well. Take a flask and sandwiches instead. Shame because it could be a nice day out and decent place to take visitors but won’t be doing that now. Hope they change it in terms of menu/ food, prices and organisation before the play area is built

This place has received some indifferent reviews. My experience, my order came within 10 minutes of ordering. Staff were friendly and helpful. And tables etc were clean. So full marks from me.

Great views of Pennington Flash and a definite step up from the food vans. Imaginative selection of cakes, but slightly pricey. I recommend an extra shot if ordering an Americano. A lot of items have been removed from the menu.

Our last week visit to the Hide (the new cafe in Pennington Flash) was a huge disappointment. We had to queue for 45 min for ice cream as the people serving were extremely slow. I have never experienced anything like that before. The place was quite dirty - my son asked that we do not sit there. Also, they got rid of the burger van which had always been a reason for us to come to that place - the burgers were fantastic. Now they are gone -what a shame. The new playgroung not so bad but a bit claustrophobic as there are so many attractions on a relatively small space. Altogether, a disappointment. Doubt we will ever come back - unless the burger van is back - ha ha

First of all the cafe is in a nice location and the atmosphere is very nice in good weather. However, the food, in particular the toasties and sausage barms where very underwhelming and very expensive for what they were. The drinks again were expensive but were quite nice. There is an ice cream section that looked good, but we didn't try that. Overall, it is a good location to stop and have a drink, but maybe not the food.

This would be really successful, a cafe on pennington nature reserve ... should be and not difficult to be wonderful... but its not!If Wigan council want to re coup some money from the investment, i suggest they have a good luck at the quality of food, price and service offered. At 12.15 today i took my dog for a walk and was looking forward to getting a sandwich and a coffee. I waited 5 minutes to be noticed by the staff, who were casually chatting with each other in the back. When eventially asked what i wanted there was a choice of 1 sandwich and 1 pre made toastie .. at lunch time! No facility to make a sandwich on site! So i bought nothing on this occation. I have bought a hot bacon barm from them in the past .. pre made and dry .. and took 30 minutes to get served. It appears as though there was just 1 person making coffee, 1 person heats the pre made toasties, 1 person serves ice creams Etc . If they worked together as a team, then the wait time would be improved. The prices are slso too high compared to other cafes in the area.I suggest if Wigan Council want it to be be successful then staff training, a look at pricing and freshly made food or at least some choice, would make it happen. If not it will be closed within a year at a huge waste of taxpayers money ... such a shame with this much potential, considering the site its on.I also assume nodody at the council reads these reviews to see how they could improve. If this was a private business, people would be sacked and the establishment would be shut as no money would be made!
