This is the first time I have been to Gills since they left the old location on Chillingham Road.What I found was a lovely, new, sparkling clean shop, with exactly the same unique taste that so many have come to know and love in the 25 or so years since they have been in Heaton.The best thing about the new location is that you can now eat inside, so your meal stays warm and fresh and it saves messing on washing up at home.The only thing that stops me giving 5 stars is that I would like to see plates, cutlery and salt & vinegar being given to those who do choose to sit in.I know this is an extra expense and more time cleaning plates etc, but I think it would be a good investment and worth looking in to. I'm sure this will attract more custom.Either way, I will be a regular with Gills once more. Well done Gills.

Being from the coast a good chippy is crucial and I struggled to find one till I came here. Best place in town for a takeout and my fav since i have moved for uni. The Fish and chips are too die for and it never fails to impress and the pizzas... well they are something else

First time I've been to Gills since they moved and was very disappointed, they got my order totally wrong, didn't give chips with the kebab or pitta or salad it was just a tray of meat which was a bit burnt, clearly different management now as it used to be very good!

They do not have a full menu anywhere in the shop for some reason, and the customer service was non existent. Battered sausage and chips wasn't terrible but certainly below average. Chips were soggy and over fried, sausage was overly greasy and the batter was definitely not crispy. I would return, but only if I was 10 pints deep and the chinese across the road was shut :)

Ordered food 7pm and did not arrive until 9.30pm! Over £30 for 3 donner wraps that had no taste and free can of Fanta for the long wait.......WOW THANKS! Do not waste your money.

Ordered a garlic bread special with cheese salad chilli n garlic, usually all comes on top but instead I got a skinny little garlic bread with no cheese, bits of kebab on top, customer service is absolutely rubbish, they don’t offer replacements either! £20 wasted

I wouldn't recommend anybody buying food here. Tonight was the first time I'd been since the Chinese couple who used to run it retired, & what a big disappointment it was. My friend ordered a cheeseburger, I ordered cod & chips. Whilst we were waiting, whenever the lady serving behind the counter handled the hot food coming out of the fryers, she would lick her fingers when she thought nobody would notice. Me & my friend had no intention of eating the food after seeing this, but we did bring it home, what a wonderful surprise!! The burger my friend ordered was really dry, like it had been pre-cooked, seriously, I mean come on guys. Then there was my cod, which was also dry, covered in greasy batter, I picked it apart, & saw that it had freezer burn on it, absolutely disgusting. I will be reporting them to the appropriate authorities, I have it recorded that the lady behind the counter was licking her fingers & not washing her hands, I've worked in kitchens & never seen anything like that.

I asked for my fish and chips to be wrapped in paper and not cardboard. The woman serving me just fully ignored what I said even after saying it twice. They do not sell fish and chips like they used too!
