Chris Herbert Furniture Design

Chris was fantastic, was able to give us a price quickly and was very accommodating to the brief we required. He was spot on with the amount of time it would take. He turned an old dated piece of furniture into something that we now use regularly and is a real focal point of our living room.

I’ve been using Chris Herbert on a variety of projects at my Georgian rectory since we bought it 4 or 5 years ago. It started incredibly simply when I asked him to frame an unusual piece of art. He saw the colour scheme of the room we were putting it in and designed the dimensions perfectly to show the piece at its best. So we asked him to build some bespoke doors and windows for the listed stables and carriage block that we were converting into a garage. It was listed, so the designs had to be efficient but in keeping with the character of the building. Again, we couldn’t have been happier with the quality of the design and the workmanship.More recently, he has designed and built some bespoke furniture items for our boot room, using reclaimed materials and trying to capture a combination of rustic, a hint of industrial and yet elegant enough not to shock in a Georgian house. And last week he delivered 3 coffee tables for our lounge - they had to be quite classic to fit in with the shape and feel of the room, but with a modern touch and use some natural slate for the surfaces. They are brilliant.Chris is a really good designer: he’s resourceful, thoughtful and creative. He’s constantly checking with the client to make sure he’s on the right track, but always with alternatives, from the simple to the more off-the-wall. He’s a really good furniture maker too: conscientious, has a wonderful attention to detail, and has always delivered on his promises. I can’t recommend him highly enough.
