Ammanford Self-Drive Hire Car & Van Rental

Having been caught with extra charges on numerous occasions over the years with the likes of Hertz I try my best to avoid hiring vehicles. Had no choice this weekend. Hired a van for the weekend to help someone move. Pick up was easy with the opportunity for thorough inspection. Existing damage was recorded with photographs on the rental agreement along with fuel level and mileage. There was a mileage allowance of 250 miles per day. A £200 deposit was included in the hire cost. No issues with van. It was clean and ran well. Returned the van on the Sunday evening to the service station. Whilst very convenient, this does leave you open for damage claims you can’t defend. With this in mind I made sure I took photographs on return to match the same angles as the hire agreement. Anyway, no issues whatsoever. Deposit was credited back to my card in 2 days as promised. Overall a positive experience and I’d be happy to hire again from these guys.

Van was modern, but smelly.The main issue was that the van I ordered was not available until 1.5 hours after the arranged time, and then because that was the only available van but was bigger than the van I ordered, I had to pay extra for this larger size! I wouldn’t have taken it all as a result but unfortunately I was in need of a van.

Absolute cowboy outfit. Accused us of hitting the van and we hadn’t even let the car park. Then said they were keeping some of my deposit as the fuel gauge was a millimetre different from where it went out……the lied about my pending deposit coming back and when challenged they said they were going to check cctv for the “van damage at pick up”, I asked them the cctv as they have had it three days….then refused even tho I hadn’t even hit the van. I had to go to the garage and demand refund….had it back after 4 days.They were trying to get away with keeping my deposit so you have been warned. Stay well well away

After using this company regularly and putting a significant amount of business their way we won’t ever use again. £15 “cleaning charge” was deducted from one deposit without notification even though the van was filthy when we picked it up and we had to clean the cab before we could use the van. When we queried it we were told there were a couple of leaves in the footwell and it had taken the gentleman 15 minutes to clean it and he had called us to notify us of the cleaning charge despite no record of the call.The most recent hire was two days after that call and hadn’t left us enough time to find an alternative. It took over an hour for them to check the car out to us. I took photos of the car inside and out to ensure we weren’t going to be stung with another unnecessary cleaning charge on its return.When we returned the vehicle it was passed as being spotless and we were told they’d return our deposit later that day. We refused to leave until we had received our deposit back in full and we we’re then told we would have to wait until they’d checked out other vehicles before they could return our deposit.Needless to say all trust was gone after the deposit not being returned in full the previous time so I refused to move my car from where I’d parked it until my deposit had been refunded in full. It was only then we got our hire deposit back.Be careful hiring from these guys now. When Duncan was the person we dealt with we had nothing but amazing cheery service. But these people seem to be trying to rip people off with random charges.

Late booking but got a good Luton for a good price! Minus one star as the Luton didn’t have safety harness

AVOID. We had booked a van and been told that there was a £2k insurance excess. When we arrived we asked if they offered an extra waiver policy to cover this. The response from the gentleman covering the desk, seemed to imply that instead of it being an excess, the £2k was the only insurance the company offered. I.e the rest of the risk was carried by the renter. So that if there was a write off in the event of an accident , the insurance would pay for the first £2k and the customer would be liable for the rest. This seemed unusual so we asked questions to try to clarify. The answers were evasive and unclear. Another person that worked there then said that if we asked questions about the insurance they wouldn’t rent the van to us!!!! We tried to explain we were just wanted to get clear about the terms and conditions. We were told they would be sent after we signed the paper work. In the end we left. If this sounds too incredible and weird to be possibly true - then you are feeling as flabbergasted as we were. AVOID.

In terms of hiring the vans and the vehicles themselves, there aren’t any issues. Various sizes, reasonable prices and easy to collect.However, the company themselves I wouldn’t recommend. They don’t have a damage waiver and you’ll need to cover their £2000 excess.I recently hired a van and dented the door (cosmetic damage that didn’t affect the use of function). I was told that the door would need replacing, and they use local garages to do the work at a discounted rate. I was initially quoted £1900 + Vat £2194 + VAT.I asked to contact other garages who are able to carry out dent repairs, which was agreed. Quoted £850 with guarantee (as requested by the company) and then this was turned down because suddenly it needed to be by a ford-approved garage.Going back to the original quotes, they reduced it to £1475 as they agreed to cover the VAT. I asked for an invoice which included an itemised breakdown of the work undertaken and I was told this wasn’t possible because they use a portal.The issue I have isn’t that I needed to cover the costs of repairing the damage - I fully accept that I was liable for this and willingly paid. But I do feel that they were making excuses for me to pay the higher rate and not giving full/honest justification for the costs.

Vans in poor tyre condition on friday when picking up and told it would be ready on monday.turned up monday and told they are not available to hire and manager will not answer phone

Avoid !!! Hired a small van online . Arrived to collect advised van isn’t available . ( whatever the reason the van wasn’t available isn’t the customers fault ) told would I accept a larger van well I’ve driven 30mins to collect and needed the van that morning so not left with much choice !! The company decided to charge an extra £20 for a larger van I didn’t need ! I thought this charge should be waived !! After speaking to another representative and a manager was told it’s a high risk hire ??? so they cannot refund the £20 and I’d accepted the extra charge anyway !!If anyone decides to hire from this company call them first before making the journey to collect !!Last time I hired a van from this company it was different owners . Won’t hire from them againZero customer service !!!
