Sunset by Australasia

The restaurant and setting is pretty for pictures. Food was just alright. Price for food? I'm pretty sure you can get better options if you're looking for exquisite food and better service with this price. We found a blue string/plastic on one of the dessert. Horrified. Maybe would come back for a drink just for the decorations ONLY but never again for food. :/ Staff was rude.

Used a gift voucher I had received for my birthday at weekend for afternoon tea. Went with my sister and was really looking forward to it. We don’t venture into Manchester much so wanted to have an early booking so booked for 12pm. Arrived and got to choose first table as only people there, sat down and once not from a far we became quite unimpressed with the standard of the restaurant. This is definitely somewhere made for “instagram” but in reality, the seats are stained and dirty, covered by blankets which weren’t much better. The cushions were the same. The table was sticky. The drinks menu was sticky and stuck together. It was £4.20 for a Diet Pepsi?! And because my sister didn’t want a normal tea from the bundle she had to pay £2.50 extra just for a flat white coffee. Drinks came and the waiter managed to spill the Pepsi over himself so had to replace it. Jug of tap water on table and the jug was all stained. Grateful they swapped out fish items to suit our allergies when I asked. Then savoury food came, nothing to rave about and definitely not filling. Sweet food came, and the items on the round circle shelves were vile. The other bits in the bottom tray were okay. Then I asked for another Diet Pepsi and he forgot about us for a good 45 mins, even though at this point there was only 3 tables with people on them. So when he remembered he brought us both a Diet Pepsi on the house. Asked for the bill and my voucher was taken off for the afternoon tea (£45) but the 2 diet Pepsis and a flat white ended up costing £16 something because they threw in a non optional service charge of approx £6.80 or something? Anyway by this point we was ready to leave, again waited nearly 20mins for him to come back with a card machine so ended up walking to bar to pay so we could leave. Wouldn’t go back. Wouldn’t recommend the afternoon tea.

Waited around 15+ for our waiter to even acknowledge us and take our order, we ordered a glass of wine and a frozen cocktail - cocktail mostly made of ice !! we was only expecting it to be £24 since both drinks were £12 but came to £27, drinks are charged more than what you see on the menu. we waited 5 minutes to pay after our bill was given and the waiter didn’t arrive, so left £30 on the table and left. two drinks should not be £30 !

We booked here for a girly brunch. It was really quiet and There was no atmosphere for a Sunday lunch time - which sometimes is a bonus if the service & food is impeccable. Service was slow and didn’t feel professional - I had to get up twice to find a waiter as there was nobody around or serving us. Also the lady who seemed to be front of house waitress/staff was wearing cycling shorts & a oversized T which didn’t seem right for the branding of Australasia. However, I come for the food and unfortunately the food was very average. The roasted aubergine was quite greasy, the yum yum squares were terrible and the marination of the chicken skewers wasn’t tasty plus the chicken is fatty cheap thigh meat not breast (which is not stated on the menu) which is a-shame for the price of a small dish. The satay sauce wasn’t delightful - didn’t taste like authentic Thai satay sauce. It took agesssssss for small plates to arrive which was so strange as the place was dead and when asking for an extra dish it took a further 30mins of us waiting before we decided to cancel it. Quite frankly I could make the food better at home

The atmosphere was underwhelming, décor bland and the music far, far too loud. Having the acoustics of a tiled bathroom probably didn’t help. The drinks were OK, and staff were friendly.An otherwise great place let down by poor atmosphere and unbearably loud music.

Food tasted great! Amazing vegetarian options alongside meat options. Selection of liquors and non alcoholic mocktails. Great customer service, very quiet before 5pm. Phenomenal afternoon tea, best in Manchester

We went for a couple of after dinner cocktails. Really nice (as usual) choices and great combination of flavours. The DJ was spot on and the volume was just right too. The sunset sangria and the cherry chocolate sour are the two drinks we ordered (in the pictures). The sour needed more chocolate & cherry though. The sangria was perfect!

Brilliant cocktails with exotic flavours!Perfect place to celebrate special occasions, graduations and birthdays. A popular spot for a hen do. Welcoming to large groups.Gorgeous and elegant outdoor seating area, nicely decorated with flowers and pretty greenery. Great for photo lovers. A Disheartening Afternoon Tea with Unsatisfactory Service.I recently celebrated my birthday with an afternoon tea at Sunset by Australasia, and regrettably, the experience was profoundly disappointing.Right from the beginning, a miscommunication surfaced regarding the gluten-free option. Despite my proactive steps of inquiring about the gluten-free menu and specifying my preference during the online reservation, I was shocked to learn that it couldn't be arranged after we were already seated. While I recognize it was a preference rather than an allergy, the inconsistency in communication was unprofessional and inadequate.The overall service left much to be desired. Despite being seated in close proximity to the staff, their attentiveness was lacking. Requests for tea refills were consistently met with delays, and the tea was lukewarm only when served. Throughout the meal, a pervasive feeling of being unwelcome overshadowed our experience. Coupled with the sluggish service, it significantly dampened our overall enjoyment.While the savory bento box showcased creativity, the food's quality, particularly the freshness of the seafood, failed to meet expectations. Additionally, the dessert selection, while pleasant, lacked a proper introduction upon serving, leaving us to guess the components.I selected Sunset by Australasia for the birthday celebration due to its enticing ambiance. However, the underwhelming service overshadowed the celebratory mood. Unexpectedly, no complimentary gesture was extended for the special occasion, a departure from the standard experiences at other establishments.Despite Sunset by Australasia's appealing aesthetic, the subpar service, and the average food quality left me profoundly disappointed on what should have been a special celebration.
