Balvaird Castle

Visited here a few times - never been in the castle but its good to explore the grounds and one of the better places around for capturing night photos!

Beautiful castle with intact and fairly old tower which has been closed to the public for some time.The grounds are accessible and worth a look around to explore. However the educational boards could do with some updating. The car park was blocked off and I'd really like to see an attempt to open it as an attraction again.So, while it's a lovely and photogenic wee castle... it does have its drawbacks right now with no facilities to speak of and little in the way of visitor information. Hence the 3 stars. It could be so much more.Understandably, accessibility is poor as there is an uphill walk over a country track to the castle from the parking area...most of which has been closed for ages. The grounds are uneven with paths that are acceptable for the able bodied, but not maintained frequently, let alone for wheelchairs.

Great location with good views od the surroundings and has a inviting peaceful feel to it. The tower was closed off with barriers when we were there and some shawl protecting the arms above the tower door so not sure it would be open but there was no explanation. The short road up the hill is easy to navigate but slightly steep so wheelchair users may need some help to reach the castle.Unfortunately some dogs had left their waste up near the entrance and on the path so keep a look out if you take kids up there.

Really neat, unique castle with picturesque views all around. Probably not worth going out of your way for, but if you're in the area, it's a nice thing to see. I walked from the castle into Glenfarg, which was quiet and easy to do. It would be great to see photos/replicas of the inside of the tower!

A nice spot for a short stop. You can park really near to it and a short walk (slightly slopped) will take you to the ruins. The main house was closed during March 2022.

Nice little castle, unfortunately you can not go inside but still worth a visit for any castle enthusiasts.

A beautiful, remote castle with sensational views all around. Had the entire site to myself on the day I visited meant I had some fabulous photo opportunities in the winter sunshine. Definitely worth a visit if you're in the area.

Lovely little walk. It's a shame they lock the carpark for most of the year leaving only room for a couple of cars in front of the gate. Apart from that little gripe with silly policies, the ruined castle is a beautiful spot for a picnic and a wander around.

Lovely castle with nice views. Very peaceful, you could sit up there for hours on a nice day. Even the grass is cut neat and tidy.Only downside is the keep/tower is locked up nearly all the time.
