Talking post

Instead as part of Southend Councils WW1 commemorative activities this talking post plays two poems, The Soldier by Rupert Brook and In Flanders Fields by John McCrae. The poems have been narrated by local people and can be heard by pressing the buttons on the front.

To stop and listen to a Great War poem while walking under the shade of the trees puts you in a meditative and tranquil mood. This and the Phone Box museum at the corner of the park on Alexander Road are welcome additions to the community. This spot was a signal station during the Napoleonic War and a Meteorological/coastguard station up to about 1870 due to the Estuary view.CLifftown is also a local preservation area and so features lovely buildings.
