What an amazing experience! The staff really know their stuff, and you simply must have a guided tour for the most authentic experience. There are buttons you can press for commentary at various points in the prison if you walk around by yourself, but the staff are so knowledgeable you will learn so much more and be able to ask questions. There is a canteen selling hot drinks and snacks, and a small gift shop. You can also stay overnight, be chased by zombies, or simply try the escape rooms. Some escape rooms are in the dark! It is said to be the 2nd most haunted place in the UK ( the Tower of London is 1st). There is so much history here and so much to learn, and finally, make sure you have comfortable walking shoes.

Very interesting and historic building, we spent just over an hour here, but would have been longer without our dogs. Super dog friendly and has a small gift shop and cafe at the end of your tour. You can choose a guided tour or walk around on your own.

Went as a family of 4. 2 x late teens and 2 x 40 odd year old parents. All of us were engaged.Didn't really know what to expect.Fantastic tour guide took us round the prison. We spent 3 hours here. But could have easily spent longer. Seeing how the prison used to be, and that not much has changed was really good. The prison is like a labyrinth. Most of the areas are accessible. There is meant to be at least 4 ghosts that haunt the prison.Fully recommend for a great 3 or 4 hours. There is an added bonus of escape rooms in the prison.Didn't do it but escaping from a prison cell sounds like fun.

After watching lots of paranormal programmes which included footage from Shepton Mallet Prison, it was time to visit it in person. Instead of paying the £3.00 parking charge, it was cheaper and easier to park right outside, on the side road (if there are spaces available!) It was £22.00 per adult, online entrance cost, which includes a 2 hour guided tour - well recommended and very knowledgeable. There is no cafe or restaurant, but you can have a drink from the reception desk. Toilets are in the waiting area, with toilets about half-way around the tour. Due to lots of stairs throughout, not suitable for wheelchair user. Enjoyable experience.

I attended the overnight prison experience which was lots of fun. Everything was well organised and the guided tour was informative and fascinating. Lots of free time to explore and get creeped out!! It wasn't obvious when booking that you needed to bring your own bedding/mattress and this was only communicated a few days before our stay. However it did all add to the experience!Tea/coffee and snacks were available all night and the staff did a great job looking after everyone.Exploring the prison during the night was a really unique opportunity and it was brilliant to get lost in the history.

Night behind bars event. This experience is definitely worth a visit. Staff were excellent, guided tour was interesting enough balance between the historical and the paranormal. The freedom to wander the halls and buildings after dark was fantastic. Although torches , sensible footwear needed. Also ensure you take bedding and mattresses or camp bed as this isn't provided. However warm drinks throughout the night were. As well as the opportunity to buy snacks. A porridge or breakfast bar was offered for breakfast before being released.

Great afternoon, lots of history and information boards. Dogs welcome, not the most pushchair friendly place but we were with friends who helped us lift the chair! Really nice on the self guided tour as you can wonder around freely! Small car park which is £3 :)
