Good free parking. Not the most even entrance. There's a sign hidden in the far fence saying that it closes at 4 pm - no doubt in response to adult activities" after dark that occurred a while ago. That said

Alkrington Woods Car Park
This is a free car park that has two pathways leading into the woods, and one leading into a field. The car park is unpaved and rocky with potholes. Although it says it's open until 4, I've been here often a lot later than 4. Sometimes the car park is really full, other times it's really empty.
