The Conan Doyle
Food was brailliant and choice of drinks were great. The atmosphere was also really nice. Whilst the staff were friendly, we would not say the service was worth the automated charge - we were spoken to upon entry, and for taking our original order. Otherwise we'd have to find staff, who would be focusing on topping up larger tables (we a table of 2). This led to miscommunication and an incorrect increase in our bill at one point, but when we spoke to the staff, they helped us sort it pretty quickly. We would definitely go again, we just hope more mind is paid to smaller tables in future.

Excellent place for a tourist to eat a dinner. Fish & chips, steak pies and other dishes are great. It was so good we ate here two days in a row.

Doyle has history and charm. Stepping into the pub is stepping back in time. The service is a bit too casual if your time is pressed. If not, the beer and Scotch offerings are good, the pies excellent and the sticky toffee top shelf. It does get crowded and the dining area is small.

The staff were lovely. However, drinks took ages approx 20 mins. There was no haggis starter available. The starter my husband ordered came at same time as our mains. The pie my husband wanted was not available. The food was warm when delivered but not hot so by time I was half way through it it was too cold to eat. My husband ordered crumble for pudding and it was still frozen. That was returned to the kitchen. When we got our bill we had been overcharged by £10.50 for drinks we did not receive . Total disaster to be honest. Nearly £100 and a waste of money as far as I’m concerned. I will definitely not be back

A lovely place to have a meal. Staff were really friendly and attentive. Place was clean and well laid out. The only problem was it was cold, there seemed to be draft coming from somewhere.

The name won't leave you much detective work as to what to expect here!It is very much themed on Sir Arthur Conan Doyle the author of Sherlock Holmes.Entry is at street level but the bar and most of the seating is up from there. It's decor is traditional with bar and furniture made of dark wood and has a fireplace. There are also some books available should you be on your own and have some time to browse. There is a good selection of craft beers and gastropub food.I didn't have any food but from what I saw it looked good.

We popped in late in the evening having been on a visit to the city and had a disastrous meal elsewhere and we were still hungry! The guys behind the bar were great and even though the kitchen was about to shut, they made sure we got some food. They are well known for their pies and with good reason. The steak and ale was excellent and served with carrots and the creamiest mash ever.It has a good atmosphere and there was a nice buzz about the place. Drinks were good with a large selection of ales, wine and whiskey.Worth a visit if you like; pies, good value drinks and a slightly old world stylishness.

Arrived about 12.15 for lunch before a trip to the theatre. Booking a table online about a week in advance was an easy process but I think necessary before the theatre as a lot of establishments in the area get quite busy. I like this kind of eating place as there is an extensive menu with something for everyone. During the booking process you can pick the length of time you want to stay so it is not at all rushed. We all enjoyed our drinks main course and dessert and all in all the whole experience. Will definitely use the Conan Doyle again.
