Otley Cemetery, Newall With Clifton & Lindley Cemetery
It's quiet. It has some lovely old buildings, sadly two of them are boarded up. Built of local sandstone they have a lovely warm glow in the sunshine. Unfortunately some of the graves have toppled. Whether by nature or human wantoness I have no idea. There's plenty of birdsong and I even spotted a chaffinch using a hole in one for its nest. Rebirth after death I guess. It's well looked after and has a selection of beautiful old trees. There are a few family graves from the late 19th century which I like to visit. Elkanah seems to have been a popular family name in the past, along with Elizabeth.

A tranquil cemetery housing the graves of 53 Commonwealth casualties of the first and second world war. A very short walk from the beautiful market town of Otley.“They shall grow not old, as we that are left grow old: Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn. At the going down of the sun and in the morning, We will remember them”.
