Worst Sunday dinner ever, the ambience is terrible. We ordered trio of meats and the meat what there was of it was the only nice thing on the plate. The food came out cold, 1 of the plates got reheated and the other 4 people chose to eat there’s cold as not to cause a fuss. The roast potatoes were like plastic and when we complained the extra potion was still on our bill at the end. We had originally ordered the 2 course so after the main meal ordered a pudding. After waiting 40 minutes without them arriving we decided not to bother and get the bill. It was a dreadful experience and will not be returning for that reason we give it a 1 star.

Make of this review what you will, but myself and my family turned up on the evening before the Great North Run having booked directly months in advance and having validated the booking 2 weeks beforehand. We were advised by the manager that they were fully booked with all rooms occupied, despite the email evidence showing confirmation of our booking. So there we were, 10pm at a night, when all other accommodation in the vicinity was booked up, being shown the door. Absolutely shambolic.

Wow! That Sunday dinner was superb, all the trimmings, proper gravy and perfectly cooked beef - and generous portions too! Excellent, welcoming service from Jackie too. Highly recommend the Anglers Arms for Sunday dinner.

Stayed for one night. Room clean and tidy but there was no hot water in my room. I didn't try the shower but no hot water in basin.Radiators weren't working as there were no thermostats so it was freezing.Very disappointed there wasn't the basics.

What a finding! I stayed for 1 night with my 2 kids, I was expecting a simple Pub B&B, however, it was beyond my expectations. Increadibly friendly staff (That's worth everything for me). Very clean, good rooms. Excellent breakfast. Lovely spot to be at. I will certainly come back for a longer stay....Already suggested the place to my friends.

Superb stay. Stayed for 4 nights. Good service and food throughout. The room was huge, and to a good standard, slept like a log every night. Nothing was too much trouble and was a relaxed safe stay for a single female traveller.

The Fawlty Towers of the North gets one star. Actually that's rather harsh; Basil, Manuel and his at least put some effort into things; the Angler's Arms doesn't even deserve a star.We stayed in room 5, a triple as had a little one with us. Room was above the bar with EXTREAMLY LOUD jukebox booming horrible bassy music until well after 11:30pm. Then paper thin walls meant we had the joys of hearing next door's TV until the early hours one side, and someone coughing the other. After a night in our damp room, my wife was also quite unwell, sneezing and coughing away. Then there's the horrible bathroom, which as others have been saying in reviews for the last 2 years, has a terrible shower, lose toilet seat and no loo roll holder. In true Fawlty spirit, breakfast was an absolute shambles, complete with loud yappy dog, the waiter falling over a step ladder, a 50 minute wait for one luke warm veggie breakfast for my wife, meanwhile shortages of the basics meant I had one piece of toast dry. Of the two other guest groups in the restaurant" (aka damp dark room with a projector screen sat on the bar)

The place has so much potential.Instead of taking all the negative reviews as constructive feedback to improve, which is absolutely needed, the management response is immature and insulting to customers.Reading through the negative reviews, and having stayed myself, the same concerns are recurring over couple of years and are sadly very true. There's a very clear pattern with issues that need fixing. No doubt I'll get called Karen" like everyone else who shares their concerns and disappointment in their stay which really highlights the inexperienced management who are clearly struggling and respond in a childish attack.Positives - nice curtains in room
