Matt’s attention to detail is second to none. I have used him for two restorations - a Peugeot 205 GTI and VW Golf GTI. Matt replies to my messages promptly and has always delivered a amazing car at the end of the project. I would strongly recommend Smith Classic & Performance Cars if you have a 80’s classic you want to bring back to its former glory.

I first spoke to Matt in late 2020, he explained his approach to sourcing cars for people and how his business worked. Together we discussed the spec of Gti and colour I was interested in purchasing. At first l was looking at just re-commissioning a Gti, but later decided to go for a full restoration. In March 2021 Matt had sourced a red 1.6 Gti me, prior to this I had pointed out examples to Matt but he replied either too expensive or not suitable. On my behalf Matt negotiated a fair price and arranged transport to his colleague in Manchester. Along with Matt’s colleague we discussed the spec and how much my budget was, I was very excited and couldn’t wait for the car to be completed. Time passed by and in February 2022 due to the car not been started I decided to sell the car. This was no fault of Matt’s but in hindsight a more detailed time schedule should have been discussed. Matt transported the car back to his home and got the car back on road, solving the mechanical issues and giving the car a good clean inside and out to a satisfactory level. The car was sold on Ebay for more or less what I initially paid - note Matt sold the car on my behalf and worked hard to achieve a good price for the car. To cut a long story short Matt sourced me a another red Gti but in much better condition. The car was re-commissioned to a very good standard including all mechanicals issues rectified, professional detail including paint work correction and the car interior thoroughly cleaned including carpets and front seats removed. New tyres were fitted and wheels refurbished including diamond cut. All during the re-commissioning Matt kept in regular touch via texts and phone calls, he uses good and recognised brands, whilst in keeping with the car’s originality and specification. In October 2022 Matt delivered the car to my home, the car drives like a dream and I’m very happy with the work Matt has done. To this day Matt keeps in regular contact and checks the car is running ok

Purchased a beautiful Ford Escort Ghia through Matt at Smiths Classic and Performance Cars . Purchased the car without seeing it in the metal, but Matt gave a very honest description of the car and carried out a full extensive service Mot, new tyres and full detail of the car and even sorced a genuine Ford radio cassette for the car .
