Lewisham Reuse and Recycling Centre

Poor service. Arrived at 11:40 today (Saturday 3/6) only to be turned away despite Google and their own signage saying it closes at 12pm. Compounded by the fact that the refuse centre was empty. At least 4 employees standing around doing nothing other than turn people away instead of providing a service to their community. Total disgrace.

Arrived at 11.45am on Saturday, told I couldn’t go in even though it was 15 minutes till closing. I only had 2 old chairs but the guy refused me entry. Run by jobsworths, every time I’ve been here they have an attitude. The council should be encouraging people to use a tip, no wonder there is so much fly tipping going on.

Shame I can't give ZERO stars. Staff think you are there for them instead of us paying their salary. If you want to see how recycling should NOT be done, go to Lewishams recycle point

Just showed up with a pre-booked slot and there's a handwritten sign saying the place is closed due to Covid... All phone lines for the council are closed so no one to get in touch with. Didn't even bother to send me an email to cancel so now my car is filled to the brim with the pieces of a massive wardrobe I just took apart and loaded in. What am I supposed to do now? Not like I need my car over the next few days or anything??

Went there with an old fence panel and some tins of paint. Site refreshed to take either: The fence because it's 'fencing and panel posts' and the paint because it's 'hazardous waste'.The list of items that they now do not accept is so long that I am struggling to understand what you could take. I don't understand why this place now exists. It would appear that Lewisham want to encourage fly tipping, they could not make it more difficult to dispose of waste in a responsible way.On a positive, the staff were friendly and helpful.

Having cleared my mother's house out in East Sussex, this tip and their handling of waste/helpfulness is really poor compared to other councils. First, don't believe their times - I dropped stuff off in the morning and noticed their sign says open to 4pm (as does their times on Google). On returning, they are closed and locking up at 3:25.What you can drop off is incredibly restricted. e.g If you want to dispose of things like paint, you have to book an outside contractor and are only allowed 50l worth of tubs (even if they are almost empty) a month. Anything large has to be paid for but they are not reliable at collecting. Luckily the old cooker I had paid for, left outside but wasn't picked up was stolen in the night a day later. For comparison, it is worth having a look at the facilities that Greenwich can provide at Nathan Way and their much longer opening hours. For example, they take paints & small quantities of building rubble - Lewisham doesn't. It's not surprising that Lewisham has such awful fly tipping issues when their refuse & recycling facilities are so useless compared even with a next door borough.Just to be clear, this is absolutely a Lewisham Council issue. The guys that work there are very helpful if (like me) you struggle with lifting.

Only accept people who have cars, while the entire city is trying to encourage people not to drive a car. Lol. This recycle centre is discriminated against people who don’t drive or have a car, when we booked a slot online it clearly allowed us to choose “we don’t have a car”, but when we were there, they refused to take our rubbish because “you need a car to come in”, and then we told them we don’t have a car, they said “rent a car”, then we said the thing is we don’t even drive and we don’t have a driving license, they replied “then hire man and van”. Seriously?! Why is it so difficult to recycle stuff in Lewisham?! We literally live right next to this recycle centre (like 10 mins by walk), and they want to force us to rent a man and van to just throw rubbish away? Absolutely stupid. I will definitely send mails to MP about this.

5 guys doing absolutely nothing but treating people badly. And they don't take anything anyway. Can't be more useless! I am not surprised people do fly tipping in Lewisham.

I will give 4 stars to this place as i have see a lot of negativity to this place but honestly i see why as its no to much space as you drive in and thos guys are under pressure and some drivers or people don't listen but i when there on a Sunday morning and well manners frendly guys have to a prove of id that you live in Lewisham Borough so we when there in and out well done guysDo i recommend yes i do very goodDo i will go back well definitely i will if i have more to get rid off
