Yoga, without doubt, has been beneficial in a myriad of ways: to name a few - enhanced flexibility and strength; greater body awareness; improved breathing; better balance (always a challenge for me); a calmer mind (during practice, at least!) and an appreciation of what is good in life. I’m in my 7th decade, and meeting the challenge of some of the poses brings a gentle feeling of satisfaction; knowing that I’m maintaining strength and posture – ditto. And I sleep better too!

As a very active person, who is approaching his 40s at what seems like warp speed I find that my body can’t always do what my mind is telling it to do - just jump higher like you did 5+ years ago! As a result I need to get my body ready for the rigours of a basketball game, a challenging bike ride or just a normal day at school sometimes. I have found that some well timed yoga is a great way to get me ready for what the day has to bring - I personally find sun salutations a useful way to wake my body up. Stretching and strengthening the body is key for me at this point in my life as I don’t plan on slowing down anytime soon. Being active helps my mental health in a massive way and being able to focus on breathing and body movements is a great combination. It doesn’t alway have to involve getting equipment out, I often do sitting yoga at work and do my best to get the children to join in.

You will learn how to teach breathing, yoga, relaxation and meditation in depth and guided at every step. There are loads of very helpful videos and you will be encouraged to ask for help if need be. The course manual is also easy to follow and packed with information. This will improve your lifestyle and those that you teach, what more can be better.Lots of personal practice makes this course better - as in the picture.....Hats off to Robin and her team that have put this fantastic course together.

What a wonderful, enthusiastic and supportive team of tutors! They go above and beyond to ensure that everyone has what they need to be able to succeed. It's so exciting being part of this project, taking yoga, both the movement and its wider areas of wellbeing, into our schools. This course is an absolute treasure - it's very rare that the process of learning has such a beneficial effect on your own wellbeing.

I partook in yoga classes as a teenage boy here. Yoga helped me a lot at that age, I learned control and gained the ability to calm myself which helped me in every aspect of my teenage years, from socialising to concentration and education. It also helped my physical health as the poses and routines stretch muscles that are often not targeted when stretching normally. I played a lot of rugby and the yoga helped with that too as it improved mobility, blood flow and range of movement not to mentioned the improved recovery time after games. I believe yoga should be done by all young men for the countless benefits and I am grateful to shift movement for the help I received there.

‘Personal practice of yoga has now become a part of my life...it allows and gives me time to focus on me - building strength within my mind alongside strength in my body. Gaining courage to reflect on past and present, enabling me to move forward into life with a new calmer and more positive outlook.” Lucie Andrews

Robin has been great. She’s been able to support me to team teach and lead parts of yoga sessions in school. Leading to me becoming more confident at teaching yoga sessions, which has led to an after school club being set up.The children have benefited from having yoga sessions in school by being able to use some of the breathing techniques and relaxation techniques in the day-to-day life, both in and outside of school. They have said how relaxed they feel after completing a yoga session and some even asked to do extra sessions which led to an after-school club being set up and additional sessions in school along side PE.It gave the children time to go out and consider how they were feeling and getting in touch with their emotions. School can definitely be a busy place and for the children to have designated time in a yoga sessions or as part of a brain break to do some of the yoga techniques that we have learnt has really shown how they can be mindful individuals and take a step back from a situation to remain calm. Therefore, it has given the children skills and strategies that they can use to help them be mindful, take a step back and help to calm their minds. It has also helped the children to think about how they can use, techniques and skills taught in situations both in and outside of school. The children really enjoyed taking part in yoga, and they have said that they would like to do it more often. I believe that yoga in school is a very important part of school, it supports children’s well-being, mental health and gives them change to check in on how they’re doing, as well as for adults to check in with their students. It supports the well-being and mental health of our pupils.Following on from these sessions, the children have been undertaking brain breaks in the classroom when needed to to do some simple yoga poses, breathing techniques and relaxations to support with cognitive load and wellbeing in the classroom environment. It gives not only the children but also teaching staff time to decompress and take a step back from the situation or task at hand and come back to it with a clearer and calm mind. The children have shown this approach supports them to calmly get on with tasks set as it is done in a mindful way to best support the children.
