Pengelly's Fishmongers of Looe

Have been visiting Looe for many years when we can, and have used this fishmongers many times. Visited this year a few days ago and my partner wanted to try crab for the first time, so I suggested here. 12.50 for ONE dressed crab, but as having shopped here for a while I thought I would give it the benefit of the doubt...shouldn't have done that. Crab was full of shell, and had a dead man's finger inside where it had not been dressed correctly. It also had a sticker for SOUTH DEVON on it, so not local to Looe as what was expected. Very disappointing and not what I expected from somewhere I trusted.

Had some dressed crab and lemon sole fillets delivered to Buckinghamshire. Superb flavour, lovely and fresh. Fillets were nice and plump and delicious. Great fish and great service!

Our friend brought us some amazing sea bass - we baked it and served with caper and lemon dressing with home grown spuds and ratatouille . It was delicious x

Really friendly, amazingly priced wide range catch of the day fresh fish. Very arranging, kept our purchases in their fridge while we visited Looe, picked up on our way back. Will definitely return and recommend!!Wish all fishmongers were like this !!

Cannot fault this place! Went in today as I fancied cooked a lobster, I asked the best way to break and eat, the lady (I believe Scottish? Apologies if I am wrong) was more than happy to assist. Broke it down and packaged it for me. I then asked about the oysters and again best way to eat (novice when it comes to sea food) and unfortunately she couldn't open the oyster, but gave it a good effort, her colleague however did. Now I wasn't expecting to be sampling my first oyster in the presence of others there and then.. but I am all for trying new things. So in good spirit and with other customers I had my first oyster, and it was delicious.. We all had a great laugh and the customer service was exceptional.. Got back had the lobster and honestly faultless. Very delicious... Could not recommend these anymore, great food, good prices and outstanding customer service. Cheers both for the laughs and service!

Just love their plaice, all the fish is fresh. Plus if you look carefully you'll see the shop in Beyond Paradise, in the background when they leave the police station.

The reviews on trip advisor are well worth it. Went to Looe specifically to buy fresh white crab meat. Got a lovely portion for two for £8 30p you pay by the weight gorgeous sweet fresh crab buy yourself some fresh rolls and make your own it will save you £££££ plus staff are lovely

All of the seafood is beautifully displayed in a little shop right by the Quay. All freshly caught, either by boat or line. The shopkeeper was extremely knowledgeable about the products and helped us choose our delicious hake for our evening meal. I just wish she could have cooked it for us too!
