A very pleasant little cafè that is a welcome break in your literary browsing/wandering around town. The staff were friendly, helpful and cheerful, the food is of a good standard as expected for a venue of this type, but the cakes looked a little unappealing - either a bit lacklustre or else extravagant, multi-tiered wonders, nowt in between. Toilets in a different floor which is a little inconvenient, but there is a lift nearby.

Very nice café with amazing staff, both adult and child friendly. A very nice selection of drinks and a great cake selection.

Poor quality coffee, does not do Union hand-roasted any favours. As a bookstore good, but I was there for the coffee, and they are not doing Union hand-roasted any favours.Waterstones used to have either Costa or Caffè Nero. Not good, not unless you enjoy bad coffee (I don't).Then slowly slowly the chains kicked out, the coffee brought in house, a coffee shop named W. A step in the right direction, except the coffee poor quality catering supply coffee from Scotland. The coffee now sourced from Union. Has W improved? Only one way to find out.Downstairs is very cold. Doors wide open. This is very bad working conditions for the staff I'm sure they thought they were working in a bookshop not on a market stall. On the first floor, I had to move twice, cold air blasted from air conditioning..I then popped downstairs to pick up a book to browse by Steve Bartlett. No idea who he is, other than on YouTube a conversation with James Hoffmann about coffee.Slow service to order a coffee.Cappuccino ordered. I watched the milk dumped out of the side of the pouring jug into the cup. Would I like chocolate? Absolutely no way. Guy pours chocolate on top. Start again. This time I pay close attention. No attempt to swirl the espresso in the cup. Foamed milk dumped straight out of the side of the pouring into the cup. At least used the correct size cup.I took my coffee to a table. Too hot, bitter, undrinkable. I left after a couple of sips. Now an unpleasant taste in my mouth.I don't know what coffee the were sourcing from Union. It should have been on display. I did not ask. They are not doing Union any favours.I then walked to Coffee Aroma where I had an excellent cappuccino

Love coming here for a coffee on a Sunday morning. Great coffee, delicious sandwiches and cake, and cosy seating. The folks running this place are top notch at service. Particularly, recommend the hot chocolate here!
