I'm a residential student. Reaseheath is a beautiful place to live, with it's lush greenery and there's a lake you can sit by in the summer, which is nice. I love getting to see this environment every day!

I was looking to change my career and was unsure how or what to do. A friend mentioned Reaseheath is a brilliant centre that runs short courses. So I enquired and 4 years later I’ve graduated from the HE access to higher education (had the best time ever) and now on my final year in Conservation and wildlife ecology (hands down the best course on the curriculum) from in-depth ecology to habitat management and welfare to applied issues and herpetology and all in between. Amazing Uk based wildlife trips with hands on experience conducting adder surveys to newt surveys camera trapping and loads more. If you’re interested in wildlife then this course is 100% for you. Highly recommend it to any one. Top tip! If you do decide to join on a course? Make use of the library it’s ace. Staff and other students are full of character and helpful in any time of the day if you need help. Well-being team need a mention too as they have helped other students on my course with personal issues and they said they’re fantastic. Did I mention that the conservation degree is the best? Enquire and see where it takes you! It’s never to late to learn!

Absolutely awful college. I did animal management and Staff are rude and judgy I was pulled out and made a show of infront of the class by a practical tutor called kerry, who was incredibly rude, over nose piercings which I had explained multiple times could not come out as they needed a special tool to open. There are multiple things wrong with the college and ill start with the horrible management and the fact tutors often never showed up or didn't have a lesson planned and even when there was it was copying a PowerPoint and no actual teaching. Tutors did not communicate and often took sides with other staff over incidents without even asking students for there side of the story which leads to students being forced to apologise or be punished for things that never happened.I also want to talk about the neglect of the poor animals that live there1) the poor hamsters live in barron tanks with barely an inch of (toxic) sawdust either dangerous or no toys and again dangerous or no wheels. In these enclosures you can see flying caucer" wheels which are known to cause horrific spinal deformation and Injuries when they fly off them as there's no appropriate grip. Hamsters of this breed should have aa28inch upright wheel as a basic necessities and not one hamster while I was there had one.Hamsters also require a bare minimum of 10 inches of paper based bedding as they a are burrowing animals and burrowing is a natural behaviour and therefore one of the 5 welfare needs (they like to go on about the welfare needs and how important they are but seemingly ignore the need for them in their own zoo) the hamsters at reaseheath have barely any bedding and what they do have is toxic and known for causing respiratory infections

As far as grounds and visuals are conserned it's a great place to be and can spend time in the grounds happily. Unfortunately you don't get a good reputation as a college just by having a nice garden.I was inducted late onto horticulture and landscaping and I can tell you your better off saving your money. Far too much computer based work on unneeded information. Not enough horticulture or practicals for what is a hands on profession. Needs improvement.

Please just go to a different college not here. I went to the animal management side of the college for around a year until i left from rage. This is everything that happened when i was here.1.) Staff could not care less about the conditions of the animals. I was in the rodent section quite a lot and they were missing so many things they needed , wheel , toys ect. The animals were so stressed it was very sad to see. told the staff and they handled the situation terribly and treated me badly when i offered to help!!2.) Staff put the animals in danger a few times. I told the staff that we needed to get some more enrichment for the animals as they had none , we all decided to go outside and pick up some rodent friendly sticks and leafs for them to chew on. The staff member came back with loads of different types of wood which i explicitly told her NOT to use as they where deadly to the animals she was giving them to. are you even provided the information in front of her and she said “it will be fine”???!!! what annoyed me the most is that there are so many trees of SAFE wood for them , she could of gone it those trees but chose not to.3.) Badly graded even though my answers where correct. this one is definitely hard to believe for others but my answers were 100% correct. we were given a test and we got given a certain amount of questions , we had to all pick an animal to answer these questions on. One of the questions was based on what the animal eats at certain ages. The animal that I was doing this about (hamsters) - there diets don’t really change at all when they age, which is what i stated. hamsters sometimes need to eat soft foods and foods with more protein in when getting older but this is only in some cases (for an example when the hamster losing fur , weight ext) i lost a crazy amount of grades because apparently this was wrong but i was never corrected or given the right answer?? i asked numerous times for the correct answer so i could study it (i knew i was right just wanted to see what they would say) they never told me the answer or got back to me about it. i left shortly afterStaff just don’t care , seems like there not all trained very well

We attended for an educational experience. We were more than impressed with our visit. Can't wait to visit again. The children will remember the firsthand experience with the animals for a long time

Best thing i ever did was transfer. The place is trying to be something it's not, a shame really as the campus is beautiful.

I had issues on this college. Animal management. Beautiful campus, bad attitudes all around. I've been to 2 different colleges and from that experience I can say Reaseheath Animal management is a horrible lesson to study. I'm dreading have to go back into those lessons... I have a lot of regrets going in. I feel sorry for anyone who make the same mistake I did. I had a gut feeling it was a bad idea the moment the tutors sold it as a negative when I first visited the college for a presentation and interview about the course. They said that getting a job in the sector is too difficult and were painting the course as badly as possible. I thought that was weird, but continued anyway. I wish I had listened to that tutor he was looking out for us, but I just didn't listen.

Wildlife conservation and ecology course at UCR has been brilliant. Teaching staff are very knowledgeable on their subjects and they will help you in any way they can. Lots of opportunities to do field surveys to Somerset as well as monitoring wildlife on campus. Topics include wildlife rehabilitation, ecological restoration, biology of herpetofauna. Library staff are really nice and always very helpful. It would be good if they could include botany to the curriculum as that is part of the habitat.
