Buckminster Gliding Club (Saltby Airfield)

I completed a 5 day course at the airfield learning to go solo and loved it so much I decided to do another straight after. The instructors are so knowledgeable and encouraging. The whole club has a very kind and family feel to it with everyone getting involved and helping each other. As well as flying solo at the end of the two weeks I learned many other things while there, and was never board any of the days. To conclude, to anyone who can’t decide to do it or not. Definitely do it.

Went as part of a virgin experience day and can whole heartedly recommend it. All the people we met were friendly and wanted you to get the most out of your time with them. The experience itself is great, they let you have a go at taking control of the glider to see how it feels and the quiet is really unexpected. Chose this one as it was the nearest to Preston, which is quite a way but it was worth the journey! A great introduction to gliding and can recommend to anyone wanting to try it.

Wanted to use up my Virgin points so chose gliding for my Virgin Experience Day. A really friendly club; the members are passionate about gliding and want to make sure you have a great time. I had a winch launch (amazing feeling going from 0-60 in under 3 seconds) but felt very safe strapped tightly into my seat. It's a snug fit - probably similar to being in a Formula 1 racing car so no room for your handbag! Many thanks to my instructor Barry for lots of interesting information and for pointing out the sights as we soared over them. It was a beautiful day but the thermals weren't good so the initial flight was only about 5 minutes. The club generously gave me a second flight free of charge. Highly recommended - both the experience and the club.

I had experience voucher that I have booked in here.Staff in here were overly nice and super professional.I flew with John, I felt super safe with him as he took me through all kind of scenarios that could happen and how to react.Overly my experience in here was 10 out of 10.

I last flew gliders about 17 years ago and was looking for somewhere to start again. After a visit to look around I decided to join as I was impressed by the organisation for training to solo and also for the support they provided post solo, which is often lacking at other clubs. They have a good selection of gliders both for two seater training and single seater. Good age range of members and everyone is friendly and willing to held out a new member.

Was purchased 2 flights as a gift and was apprehensive at first but had a great day. The instructor was brilliant and we had a really good flight. Expensive as a pastime but would definitely recommend

Brilliant day out gliding was amazing. All the people working were volunteers and they were amazing. Archie my instructor was a first class guy friendly and knowledgeable. I would highly recommend this activity.

As a member of the gliding community I would recommend this club.The club has a large main runway and a smaller cross runway. Plenty of high quality club gliders and modern equipment to get you flying. There are large hangers and plenty of parking space. The club house has a kitchen, bar and simulator room. The simulator room sports two separate simulators, a projector one and a VR one.If you want to try gliding or are a seasoned pilot this place is worth a visit.

Very few instructors available bought 1 day course but could only offer courses on a couple of days per month ended up with my voucher expiring before I could use it

This is a fantastic gliding club.The instructors are incredibly helpful and friendly.The depth of gliding knowledge is immense.I've been twice now and had a fantastic time both times.Getting into the club is a little tricky because if you follow the postcode you end up in the wrong place.
