Firstly, beautiful steak & ale pie, £16 a pop, but very very nice. Not too broad a range on menu, but cannot fault pie on pea purée with chips and gravy.Staff attentive, but not overly so.*************************************EDIT - Be aware that a 10% service charge is added to your food and drinks bill in an underhand way. They tell you the cost, they take your card or cash and issue a receipt. We weren’t aware of the cost of our drinks so didn’t question the total £44 and change. Later driving home and working out the costs I thought the bill a little high. Checked the bill and there was the 10% service charge. Not mentioned at any time, it may be in the small print on the menu, but to me, underhand. We won’t be visiting again.D&D Bennett

Pleasantly surprised! One look at the menu yielded little of appeal and an expectation of maximum price for a minimum portion. However, after ordering our food arrived promptly, looked appetizing, tasted good with decent portion sizes. Although I was a little disappointed with the chips which came several minutes after my main course, 'fresh out of the fryer' but hard and chewy nonetheless. The decor and ambiance are lovely and I think in part that's why my chicken breast and chips cost 18 quid. The wife was happy with her prawn and chorizo linguine for £17 which is all that matters. Can't fault the staff who were excellent.

Very disappointed with our Sunday lunch. The service was diabolical... Thought our friends had booked a table but they hadn't. Asked the young girl who greeted" us have you got a table for four to be met with a blunt 'no' asked when will the next table be free and was told ' no idea I don't know how long people take to eat' asked could you give me a rough idea as we're happy to have a drink and wait. The table was established for 45 minutes

The food was lovely. Had rustic bread and butter to share, a pasta bowl and pie of the day.The spinach tortellini was so tasty.

Went to a wedding and it was brilliant. The venue is beautiful, the food was great and the staff were lovely. Wish it was closer to home. Well done to the whole team, it was really busy and we could all see how hard you were working in the ridiculously hot weather!

I had to put a 1 star for the three categories so that I could register a review. Looked up whether this establishment was dog friendly as we were attending a canine event a few miles up the road earlier in the day. Was delighted that it stated that it was and on our journey home impelled in the car park with our 3 brilliantly behaved dogs whilst the wife went inside to see if there was a place in the bar to eat as we were starving. On asking about food and availability to sit with the dogs the person clearing tables said that they were dog friendly but not on a Sunday. Not what it said on your site hop pole. In other words we are dog friendly when we are not so busy and your money comes in handy but get stuffed if we are busy. A warning to the ever increasing amount of travelling dog owners out there.

Great location, in the winter it has raring fires, in the summer. Amazing outside space along the canal.Fabulous Sunday lunches, and if you want a cocktail - order any of them - they are all fantastic!

Lovely pub in a fantastic location on the Bank of the Chesterfield canal . Loads of outdoor seating and decking. Clean and tidy inside with a reasonable choice of drinks. Would be far better if the staff engaged with the customers as it seemed a problem to speak or reply .
