I called in at lunchtime today (Sunday) with a coat and a jacket, both needing a small repair. Neil was very helpful and professional, both garments were repaired and ready to collect by 4pm, that's incredible customer service! I will definitely use their services again, highly recommended, thank you.

The Sewing Room - Ramsgate
My daughter was recommended by Birchington Brides to go to Jive After Five - Addington Street, Ramsgate for her dress to be altered and I knew from the first moment I stepped through the door that this was not the place for a new sparkling white wedding dress. It is a very small shop that sells ‘pre-loved’ clothes - If you had 5 people in it, it would be cramped. . We tried to get another seamstress but everyone said they were too busy so we had to stay with Karen, which was the worst decision I have ever made as a mother! What should have been a fun and exciting time was a nightmare! The changing room was too small, therefore my daughter had to get changed in the middle of the shop in a space roughly 5ft by 7ft in full view of passers by. There was no sufficient lighting and it was very difficult for my daughter to see in the mirror. To see the back of her dress I had to take a photo and show her. On our second visit I took a white sheet to put on the floor. My daughter left both of these fittings in tears and very anxious about leaving an expensive dress hung on a railing that the bottom of the bag hang on the floor. Enough was enough on our last visit when Karen - the seamstress - started to wipe what she called a dust mark with an anti bac wipe - but this stain was grease I could see that. We left the dress with her as she was convinced this stain was dust but on our next visit the stain was even worse therefore I refused to let her take the dress as all she kept suggesting was that she could remove the stain by wiping it daily to dissolve it! This stain was a grease stain! (stain about 3 inches long and 2 inches wide). I took the dress to Master Johns in Canterbury who confirmed this was grease and underneath there was a big watermark where Karen had kept wiping it with anti-bac wipes and what ever else she had used. Karen told us on our last visit that she had steamed the dress and Master Johns said that by doing this she had made the stain worse! The one good thing that Karen did was admit liability and put a claim in on her insurance, however this left us with 4 weeks to get a dress and get it fitted. Thankfully Amour Brides in Canterbury were amazing and their seamstress just brilliant so we do have a dress for the big day. So I suggest that if you do use Karen that ALL fitting sessions are done at the bridal shop where you bought your dress and not her tiny shop. Also please be aware that Karen transports the dress from her shop to her home and on investigation we found that the mark was also on the wedding dress bag in the same place as the mark on the dress so highly likely that the bag with the dress in had been shut in the boot or door of a car. Absolute nightmare!

I recently had the pleasure of visiting The Sewing Room, and came away with the most incredible bespoke bridesmaid dress for my best friends wedding. In July, I stumbled into the sewing room and met with Neil and Karen, and gave them reference images for an idea I’d had for a dress. I had very limited references, no pattern, and in all honesty wasn’t too sure of what I wanted exactly. In a week or so, Neil contacted me with fabric samples, and I was so thrilled that he had really listed to what I had asked for; Un-bleached white, and something suited to an outside/cottage core themed wedding. The communication between picking the fabric and collecting the dress was faultless; Neil was extremely communicative, and even stayed late one night to accommodate my working hours for a fitting.I knew the quality of the work would be fabulous, but I was blown away by the final dress, and really felt listened to by both Karen and Neil. They knew what I wanted more than I did!I’d like to point out that this isn’t a large industrial shop, with vast space and multiple changing rooms; and how wonderful that it isn’t! The shop itself is quirky and bijou, with beautiful trinkets and references to past work dotted about the place. The area was clean, fit for use, and sprinkled with personality. When waiting for other customers to finish their sessions, you could see the genuine care, attention, and wholehearted passion radiating from both Neil and Karen as they worked with brides and various customers.I’m so pleased I couldn’t find an off the rack dress and made the decision to work with Neil and Karen, what a pleasure!
