It's the best heritage railway in the country I'd say. AMAZING view of the castle when the train departs towards Norden. Make sure to sit on the left as that is the best spot or when heading towards Swanage sit on the right as the line is single track and is only double at stations.

Unfortunately the rail line is running with out the steam train engine (due to the high possibility of fire) The half dozen staff in the station and on the train, in their uniforms weren’t put out by this and looked very enthusiastic about the whole thing. Making the trip fun and enjoyable. A very quaint station and a wonderful tradition

The train station was splendid! All the original pieces of the building were kept active and great condition including the rituals..

It's like stepping back in time from the moment you enter the railway station! It takes about 20 minutes to get from Corfe Castle to Swanage. We then spent 20 minutes walking up and down the platform, watching them switch the engine, before getting back on and travelling the 20 minutes back to Corfe Castle. It's a lovely way to spend the afternoon!

I passed through this station on the way from and back to Norden. You could conceivably use this to visit the castle although it is a bit of a walk. The station appears very well maintained and picturesque. It has one of the railway's signal boxes present and you can, as you head north, get good views of Corfe Castle from the train.

Corfe Castle, Isle of Purbeck, Dorset. I love this small Dorset village, and the Castle dating from the 11th Century. The views from this castle are amazing. Every person that visits Dorset should not miss this traditional stone built village. It is beautiful. The name Corfe means a pass in Old English. Corfe Castle was built on a steep chalk hill created by two streams eroding the rock either side. The construction of the medieval castle means that little is known about previous activity on the hill. However, there are postholes belonging to a Saxon hall on the site. The dramatic ruins of Corfe Castle stand on a natural hill guarding the principal route through the Purbeck Hills. As you can see it guards the gap between the south of Purbeck, where Purbeck marble was once quarried, and the rest of England. Nothing could pass in or out without going past the Castle. Corfe Castle station through which the Swanage railway runs through and stops at is a quaint stopping point on this Heritage Railway Line. There are many streets and shops for you to spend a good few hours in this beautiful village perhaps on your way to Swanage Town itself. In the 1980's, Ralph Bankes bequeathed the entire Bankes estate to the National Trust, including Corfe Castle, much of the village of Corfe, the family home at Kingston Lacy, and substantial property and land holdings elsewhere in the area. In the summer 2006, the dangerous condition of the keep caused it to be closed to visitors, who could only visit the walls and inner bailey. The National Trust undertook an extensive conservation project on the castle, and the keep was re-opened to visitors in 2008, and the work completed the following year. The castle is a Grade I listed building, and recognised as an internationally important structure. It is also a Scheduled Monument, a nationally important historic building and archaeological site which has been given protection against unauthorised change. The earthworks known as ~ The Rings, thought to be the remains of a 12th-century motte-and-bailey castle built during a siege of Corfe are also scheduled. In 2006, Corfe Castle was the National Trust's tenth most-visited historic house with 173,829 visitors. According to figures released by the Association of Leading Visitor Attractions, the number of visitors in 2010 had risen to nearly 190,000

I love it here! Such a cute town and really nice events at times! Me and my fiancée went on the cinema out door date to watch ‘how to train your dragon 2’ and it was such a sweet night, there were stools up to sell not chocolate and mould wine, they had stools to sell food and more drinks! Popcorn and chocolate! The sound was excellent it was so organised and set up in the perfect manner! It had such a wonderful atmosphere

Lovely staff and a fun way to avoid traffic. Be warned, on a hot day the train carriages are mini saunas!

Great heritage railway with super helpful and enthusiastic staff. Without prompting, we were allowed to cross the track rather than lifting the buggy over the footbridge. Staff were also really friendly with my 3 year old daughter who was interested in everything on the platform. The train journey combined with a day in Corfe made for a great day.
