Didn’t expect to enjoy this so much. A fantastic range of portraits. The top floor was a lot of aristocracy and royalty which were very interesting, the middle floor more contemporary. The cafe served a surprisingly excellent range of hot and cold food with an extensive and classy menu. A great free of charge attraction for a rainy day in Edinburgh.

The Gallery is a must-visit in Edinburgh. The collection is impressive, featuring beautiful portraits, and the atmosphere is relaxed. Don't miss the charming cafe inside for a pleasant break during the visit.

Wow, this place! It's magical - from the main entrance hall to the library through to all the wonderful gallery spaces - even the stairwells are pretty and full of interest; with busts and beautiful stained glass windows. You'll want to stay for a few hours as there's quite a lot to see (the gallery appears deceptively small)It was just such a lovely space, with lots of seating all around, inviting you to stay and soak it all in.My favourite gallery in Edinburgh for sure.

Collection is fabulous but lights and curated narrative displays needs to improve and be more imaginative. Scotland has a very unique and rich history. I only had an hour.

It's free entry and I stumbled upon the portrait gallery by chance on a rainy Sunday and dried off in the cafe which has a delicious salted caramel slice and good coffee. Staff were friendly throughout the gallery and it's a beautiful building full of a wide range of subject matter. Well wort a visit!!

Beautiful gallery of portraiture. Has gone stunning interior design and plenty of galleries to make your way through. Would suggest around 2 hours to fully explore the site. There is also a sizeable cafe on the grounds with plenty of sweet treats to pick from.

Absolutely love the Great Hall, with its star-studded wall murals & constellation ceiling. We had limited time, so only visited the Reformation era rooms. Saw some paintings I'd never seen before, like the one with insets of the beheading of Charles I. Fascinating paintings of several queens, which has led me want to learn more. Pleasant staff, clean interior, and lovely building architecture. In this Monday afternoon, no crowds either. Admission is free.

Surprisingly fantastic. Tells many stories of Scotland’s making and heritage through its portraits and comes right up to modern day. Do in chronological order from the top floor. Beautiful building as well, especially the great hall. And a lovely cafe with tasty salads and cakes. Including gluten free ones!

The Gallery encompassed the past and present beautifully, there is a lot to see and the architecture + portraits are beautiful. Entry is free and there is a medium sized locker to keep luggage with the cost being a donation.
