About the Business

Lucocoa Chocolate | We’re London’s first craft chocolate maker, making chocolate from bean to bar. We make our chocolate in small batches over three days, using only the rarest and finest Criollo and Trinitario cocoa beans; beans that are grown on farms employing the fairest practices. We only add some cocoa butter and sweeten with unrefined coconut sugar and the superfood lucuma.

This chocolate is absolutely delicious. I ordered a selection so I could try all, and all of them were fabulous! I particularly liked the blonde one, sweet, but no refined sugar. None of them lasted long! I have my next batch on order already.

We have tried Natural Blonde, Matcha Tea white chocolate and Belize 73% dark chocolate. I enjoyed the Matcha Tea white chocolate best: it is unusual and mouth-wateringly good! The natural Blonde Chocolate, as highly rated on Radio 4, is too dominated by the coconut sugar for my taste and has a slightly unpleasant acidity, but it certainly is unusual, and demonstrates this company’s appetite for pushing the envelope. I found the Belize 73% dark chocolate too powdery for my taste. However if I prime my tongue with the dark chocolate I find the natural blonde much nicer.Perhaps its bitterness moderates the acidity of the white chocolate? At £5 per 50g you don’t get much chocolate for your money, but the paucity of the product concentrates the mind and helps you focus on enjoying it.My opinion is inexpert, but I can confidently say that this is a chocolate producer worth keeping an eye on.

Lovely chocolate and good to support a local business. They had a good selection and the owner (I think) helped me pick some nice chocolates as a gift. It was a bit hard to find the location as Google maps was sending me to the other arches so I’m adding a photo which shows where it is better (and a pic of the chocs as a present)

It's definitely a food trend lately to produce chocolate in such a way to let its true flavour profile emerge and not overroast it to meet a particular consistent flavour profile. Lucocoa is the Bermondsey food producer that it embracing that trend with thoughtfulness and dedication. And the results are extraordinary. Their bars are excellent. Their hot chocolate is delightful. And they do some special chocolates at holidays.

Great little find a few years ago and first time back since then. They have a great business ethos. Lovely smell of chocolate as you walk into the building. Good selection of chocolate bars albeit small but the quality is top notch. The bourbon biscuits amazing.

Don't normally leave reviews but feel obliged to do in this exceptional circumstance. If you have never had Lucocoa Chocolate before and think you have had eaten chocolate, then try it and think again. This is actual proper chocolate, where when you put it in your mouth, you can taste the chocolate and the ingredients within it, and is something to savour, unlike some of the more well known alternatives which in comparison, tastes of nothing.A bit pricier in comparison but ethically sourced and ensuring those on the end of the supply chain are getting a fair price, therefore well worth it. Surely these are the kind of purchases we want to be making to help make a tangible difference to those direct stakeholders to this product, rather than alternatively, to those confectionery conglomerates to produce a lower quality product on a lower margin?

What a great company, love everything they stand for. Owner (Ama) is one of those inspiring powerhouses of a lady who has real dedication and tenacity which come across in the product. I love the natural blonde. Recently attended one of their chocolate tasting workshops so I could taste the subtle nuances between cacao from the different regions. Particularly enjoyed that their bars are made to be thin and delicate (by contrast to many bean to bar chocolates), which enables the chocolate to melt on one’s tongue and benefits proper appreciation of the flavours. Lovely product!

There’s something about knowing how much love and care that goes into something (and with the fewest, best quality ingredients) that makes it taste that much better. Slowly working my way through the collection but for someone who wouldn’t choose white chocolate, the Natural Blonde is a revelation! Can’t wait to try the others.

A very expensive way to buy chocolate. The idea it is all eco- friendly and fare trade is why I bought items here. Unfortunately, it definitely was no better in taste than chocolate with the same cocoa percentages I have bought in the supermarket.I haven't tried the cocoa tea yet as I had not realised I need to buy a tea infuser. On the plus side, I ordered a 50g bar of one variety and because there were none left in that size I was sent 3× 25g bars with a lovely hand- written apology from the owner. I think that was very classy and if Lucocoa expanded to make something more interesting, that plus the fair trade aspect would encourage me to go back.
