Andrew did a pre-purchase survey for our Malö 37 classic. He organised everything from a rigger and specialist engineer to a sea trial and lifting of the yacht. Andrew reported almost daily and clearly on what was going on and he did all this while we where working back in Finland. This was our second time using Andrew's expertise and if needed we won't hesitate to contact him again. Andrew really takes time to do his work well. His survey report is meticulous and a helpful list for further checks and works.

I hired Andrew in November 2016 to do a pre-purchase survey on a Victoria 34. His survey was extremely thorough, highlighting areas of work needed while also endorsing my conviction that I was buying a very seaworthy and well built boat. His honest and meticulous approach impressed me and led me to suggest that he oversee the re-fit. 4 months later “Cornemuse II” was in her berth at Northney and in many ways better than new! He did an outstanding job, identified the best contractors, kept them honest and on schedule and even learned to tolerate my perfectionist tendencies! Aside from being delighted with the results of Andrew’s project management, I have benefited from his on-going help. Being London based and “time poor” I value the ability to come down to Chichester and sail, and entrust small ongoing tweaks and maintenance to him. His knowledge of the boat and excellent network of local specialists mean that I can enjoy the boat to the maximum. Whether for a thorough survey, the management of a re-fit or restoration project or simply a reliable and keenly priced yacht management service I can but heartily recommend him.

Andrew has surveyed 3 yachts for us. He has a very thorough and meticulous approach to yacht surveying. The survey report goes into enormous detail, and Andrew is always on hand to explain the often complex findings. He went and surveyed a yacht in the Canary Islands on our behalf, which we ended up buying. He arranged quotes for all the work needed to put the boat right, which was invaluable in the pre-purchase negations. As much as we would have like to of been more hands on in the major refit of the boat, time constraints of work just wouldn't allow it. He project managed the entire refit, negotiating and liaising will all the necessary yards and tradesman. All works undertaken by said tradesman had to be signed off by Andrew ensuring no corners were cut, all the best materials were used, giving us full confidence that the job was done to the highest standard (a major concern when undertaking such work abroad) Andrew will now go on to manage the boat ensuring that she is ready to go when ever we arrive.

I'm really happy with Andrew Edmonds's pre-purchase survey of Sun Odyssey 40 sailboat. I did not purchased the boat, but this is one of the reasons why you need a professional and pragmatic surveyor: I liked the boat very much, but Andrew was able to find out a huge and expensive hidden problem, so it does not make sense to purchase the boat on a given price. I spent money for survey, but it was worth it since I saved much more. I really like the logical way how Andrew explains his conclusions and his great support after survey. We decided to buy our first motor cruiser but had a lot to learn. Luckily we found Andrew who has been wonderful. He did a prepurchase survey and project managed all the renovation work required. Andrew Edmonds of Compass Marine Surveys acted as supervising surveyor on yacht undergoing major repairs over a period of nine months. The yacht required a replacement keel and rudder.On appointment Andrew investigated the keel damage, identified the cause and prepared a plan for repair or replacement. He supervised the keel removal and liased with the lead foundry to effect a repair. In the event a repair was not possible and Andrew agreed the specification, casting and transport of the new keel. He proceeded to recommend the specification of the fixings and sealant used in remounting the keel. He was present at all the critical events and visited the yard regularly checking on progress.Concurrently, Andrew also managed the rebuild of the rudder, supervising the manufacture of a new stock, the laminating and sourcing the correct bearings.In summary, the task undertaken by Compass Marine Surveys was performed competently, enthusiastically and diligently at all times. The cost was reasonable, carefully accounted and justified. Andrew communicated well and regularly throughout the project.I would not hesitate to engage Compass Marine Surveys again.

I used Andrew for a pre-purchase survey of a 1986 Scanmar 33 - our first ever sailing yacht. Andrew has done two yacht pre-purchase surveys for us. His reports are always very thorough, and he has a great attention to detail, allowing us to make a well informed decision about price, and work required etc. His vast knowledge and experience is invaluable.

• We rang Andrew on a Sunday morning explaining that our boat was taking on water after engineers had completed some work ashore and two other professionals could not find the source.• Andrew came that afternoon and Andrew found the source within a few hours despite our boat having an inner moulding which as obscuring the problem. It was a hole in the hull made by a screw that had been removed when the boat was ashore! There was a neat fountain of water pouring into the boat.• We had the boat lifted the next day and, at short notice for the time of year, Andrew arranged for an engineer to make a good repair, removing the inner moulding around the through-hull valve and repairing the hole.• Andrew then wrote a short report which is helping us claim our costs from the engineers’ insurance.Had he not found the source of the leak, we would have been forced to lift her out again - and probably would have had a lengthy and expensive lay-up pending more searches, hard to do out of the water!He saved us a fortune and our vessel.

Andrew Edmond carried out an insurance survey on my Fisher Northeaster in March 2019. He does a very thorough and pragmatic survey with a good understanding of issues relating to older boats. Andrew was very helpful with his advice and is happy to discuss any issues regarding boats.
