Convenient way to cut out a long drive, and great if walking from West Cowes to Osborne House. Staff are friendly and helpful. Don't bother with the ticket machines, which are almost totally inoperable - the screen goes blank for around 30 seconds for each key press and then invariably fails with an error - paying the staff is much faster. Be careful with ground clearance for cars on the steep loading ramps - best to load and unload at an angle.

Lovely staff. Great prices for helping Cowes stay connected. The trip is short and you wish it was longer but you get the chance to cross multiple times.

Unfortunately, the new chain link ferry isn't working at the mo, so you can get a boat which takes you across instead. No cars though, just foot passengers.

Can't say much because we arrived and it was not in service and shut for the day. From reading other reviews this seems to be a regular occurrence. Maybe we will be able to use it next time we visit and I can update my review.

On the 25th April 2018 I went back over to the Isle of Wight on a coach trip around the island. The Isle of Wight is a county and the largest and second-most populated island in England. It is in the English Channel, about 2 miles ( 3.2 km ) off the coast of Hampshire, separated by the busy Solent. The island has resorts that have been holiday destinations since Victorian times, and is known for its mild climate, coastal scenery, and picturesque landscape of fields, downland and chines. The island has been home to the poets Swinburne and Tennyson and to Queen Victoria, who built her much-loved summer residence and final home named Osborne House at East Cowes. It has a maritime and industrial tradition including boat-building, sail-making, the manufacture of flying boats, the hovercraft, and Britain's space rockets. The island hosts annual music festivals including the Isle of Wight Festival, which in 1970 was the largest rock music event ever held. It has well established and conserved wildlife and some of the richest cliffs and quarries for dinosaur fossils in Europe. Until 1995 the island had a governor. The quickest public transport link to the mainland is the hovercraft from Ryde to Southsea; three ferry and two catamaran services cross the Solent to Southampton, Lymington and Portsmouth.Set in the grounds of the Old Vicarage the Model Village in Godshill is a well laid out Model Village that allows you to escape the busy world outside. It is one of the best Model Villages I have ever visited. The Model Village first opened to the public in 1952 when after Mr Dams created models of Shanklin to populate the top section of the Old Vicarage gardens. The lower half of the garden ( the first section you will see when you enter the village ) contains models of Godshill ( the village it is situated in ) that Robin Thwaites made with help of model makers at Pinewood studios – this was the 1960’s when Thunderbirds was as a prime example of the art of modelling! All Saints Church sits proudly overlooking the other cottages and houses just like the real church a little way up on the hill. If you stand in the right spot you can see the real church, the model church, the model of the model church and then the model of the model of the model. All Saints Church, The original foundations for the church were laid in a flat, easily accessible site; each morning they were found transferred to the hill where the church exists today. Eventually the builders gave up building it in the planned flat location and built it on the hill. The church is medieval. It is noted for its medieval wall painting of a Lily crucifix one of only two in Europe. The Lily painting was whitewashed out to save it from destruction during the Reformation. It remained hidden until the 19th century, when it was rediscovered.Alum Bay is a bay near the western most point of the Isle of Wight, England, within close sight of the Needles rock formation. Of geological interest and a tourist attraction, the bay is noted for its multi-coloured sand cliffs. Alum Bay beach is undoubtedly one of the most picturesque beaches on the Isle of Wight. This mainly shingle beach situated at the most westerly tip of the Island is framed by the iconic chalk landmarks known as The Needles with the world famous coloured sands with 21 different shades creating a dramatic and natural shelter for the beach. The crystal clear waters are a favourite for local swimmers and perfect for the children to paddle.Cowes Floating Bridge seems to have had lots of problems since it was introduced to East Cowes on the Isle of Wight. But hopefully now its working as it should.

Not a bad service now it's actually working, can be a bit slow as they seem to have limited staff loading (staff loading are also driving it), but it's a convenient way to get across so long as you don't just miss it otherwise you'll be waiting a while. Just be careful driving on if your car is a low rider. Also, under 19s are free as foot passengers which is great.
