Unite Students - Chaucer House

Nice kitchens and rooms a good place to stay. However is overpriced compared to other places built at the same time, such as Catherine, which also have better facilities, like bigger kitchens and TVs. I mainly rate this 1 star due to the incompetent staff at reception and the whole organisation. I had a bike stored in the locked bike shed and it was fully locked up and still stolen. The staff showed no interest and said security would be in contact but it never happened. It was frustrating as the police needed cctv to investigate but the staff never gave it to me, no matter how many times I asked at reception and at head office. This lead to much frustration as the bike wasn’t cheap and I used it to work. The staff had no sympathy and I was left very disappointed.

Staff were absolutely lovely especially James and Kyle, they always greet you with a happy smile and a hello even during busy times! Loved margaret rule last year so wanted to return to the university in chaucer this time. Would highly recommend to all! Some of the nicest staff and rooms around

Good quality of rooms however staff can be unhelpful when it comes to issues with other students. Kitchen has been unusable for weeks due to mouldy food but we’ve been told we can’t throw out other people’s property?!!!

While the rooms are modern (although tiny), the staff at reception are among the laziest and least intelligent human beings to walk this earth and cannot help with anything at all because they’re too busy on snapchat and watching the twilight movies on repeat. The cleaners are more helpful and clever than those clowns.

My son stayed in Chaucer in his 2nd yr of uni. Ideal location, safe to walk into town, 2 common rooms, pool table and table tennis. The flats are huge, bedrooms double beds with ensuite, not massive but plenty of room for one. The shower wasn't made for a 6ft 2 bloke but he managed. Kitchen 2 cookers, fridges and freezers for 7 students. Great viewsout to the solent.

They don't clean the shower drain for any new occupants. I've had to remove debris and other disgusting objects out of my shower drain to have any form of drainage. Utterly deplorable for such an expensive amount per night.

Not very safe as students from other flats can walk in through the non alarmed fire doors and like in our case steak stuff through the kitchen and threaten us. Staff didn't really do much apart from close the door... So it could be opened again. Also overpriced and laundry is expensive.

This place was okay but too expensive for what it offered, messed up refunds and then chased for money they had refunded. Shower was dirty when I moved in also.

Room was not cleaned between tenancies because when I moved out a hook that was on the wall when I moved in that I assumed was part of the room was charged to my account to be cleaned when I left.
