What an amazing night! I planned a surprise birthday party for my dad and the staff were brilliant from start to finish. Charlotte, the events coordinator was a star, always answering any questions and making sure I had everything I needed for the party. The staff were so helpful and friendly throughout the night and the venue was perfect for the celebration. We are already planning our next party!

It's a lovely looking restaurant but unfortunately the Ely are unstaffed and unable to cope with the Christmas bookings.Staff are extremely rude with zero customer service experience. More training is definitely required. The receptionist at the B & B did not offer assistance to my disability requirements. The whole establishment just smells of burgers.Don't be fooled by appearances. The breakfast offers cereals and pastries that open to airborne viruses. I personally witnessed the granola not being changed for over 3 days. It was hard as a rock and probably covered in cough and sneezes.Unfortunately I required ambulance assistance due to ill health and staff nearly sent the paramedics away instead of checking the guest under that name.

I went to the Ely with 5 friends for a Christmas dinner. The room we were sat in was nice and quiet, so we were able to hear ourselves chat, which was great. Even as the evening got busier, it didn’t spoil the atmosphere for us.However, it was very clear how rushed / under pressure and busy the staff were. We had to wait a good while between each course and our drinks orders were forgotten a few times. It also took a while for our plates to be cleared after the meal. It may have been that they were under staffed, which is a shame. One of the bar staff was quite rude to one of us when he got her drink order incorrect, but other than him the rest of the staff were all very friendly, despite being super busy! The food was nice, although the Christmas pudding dessert that my husband ordered wasn’t 100% what we expected. It was very small! All in all, I would definitely like to come back to the Ely and try their normal menu, on a day that’s less hectic for them.

Great stay over the bank holiday weekend with our dog. Lovely rooms and locationPub and hotel is dog friendly and staff are very good and efficientCar park could do with some doggy bins - appreciate there is a heath nearby but for late night visit before bed didn't want to venture there so had to leave poo bag by my car and take it somewhere else as no where to leave it ...

Attractive Chef & Brewer pub. Went as a group of 7, mainly elderly, to celebrate a birthday. Got drinks quite quickly (though 2 not quite as ordered) but the rest of the service was rather slow, we had to go & ask someone to take our order after waiting 20 minutes. We had booked our table & arrived in good time. The food, once it arrived, was generally good though the smothered chicken was a bit over-cooked & dry. We were a bit disappointed that almost half the desserts on the menu were unavailable, though we were only told that once we ordered, not when the menu was brought over.

As a party of four we chose the Ely for a get together and it was a bit of a disappointment! We waited over an hour for our meals and one was inedible (the steamed trout). The trout was dry and tough, the carrots were dried out and rubbery. The waiting staff were trying to keep everyone happy but there were a number of disgruntled tables. We decided not to order desserts.
