Thatch CottageDate stayed: Christmas weekThis cottage has been thoroughly modernised to a fantastic standard. Not a quick-lick-of-paint renovation but a proper, well-thought-out conversion that has turned it into a luxury rural retreat.We can’t recommend this cottage enough. It’s charming and cosy, perfect for the dogs with wooden floors and leather furniture. We stayed in the middle of winter so didn't use the garden but there's even a hose at the door for washing down dirty or sandy animals (or kids) plus an up-to-date washing machine and dryer - so you really can go anywhere and get as muddy as you like without worrying.The location is great for exploring the Broads, or a sightseeing/shopping trip to Norwich. The cottage is on a quiet country road with no street lighting, so take a torch if you intend to walk out after dark.All the annoying things about old houses have been taken care of and Thatch Cottage is warm, comfortable and draught free. There are plenty of plug sockets, hot water, light switches that work from both ends of the rooms, good Wi-Fi, an immediate log-effect fire plus a decent flatscreen TV.All the things that is except for the creepy crawlies! If you have a real fear of spiders or insects, don’t come here. This is an old thatched property and the reed roof is a haven for all things bug-like. The evidence is there on the bedroom ceiling when you wake up. It’s not a cleaning issue – this cottage was spotless when we arrived, it’s a countryside thing – learn to love it!The other thing is the stairs. They are strictly for able adults and older children only. Getting from one bedroom to the other is a challenge enough. The age and quirky charm of this place, combined with the impeccable modern renovation, really make it stand out above your average holiday cottage.There's no pub within walking distance, but we found a couple of great ones a short drive away.
