Fantastic in every sense. Brilliant building, great permanent collection and really interesting exhibitions. The garden is beautiful and the cafe sets the standard for what museum/gallery food + drink should be.

The Hepworth Wakefield
Amazing 2011 building by David Chipperfield with lots of subtle details (eg. concealed skylights above stairs and in galleries, shadow gaps). Location very striking in the bend of the river Calder, lifting the whole neighbourhood and city. And the permanent exhibition of well documeted maquettes, sculptures and other Hepworth artefacts is fantastic, too. A great destination for anyone interested in contemporary architecture and sculpture !

Absolutely amazing place, with friendly staff and great activities! We visited today on a whim thinking it wouldn't be all that, but I was very wrong! We visited the gardens when the kids made dens and drew pictures of flowers, and then went inside where we all used our drawings to inspire bigger art pieces. Free for Wakefield residents, and £12 if you live elsewhere (well worth it!!)Has a cafe and a nice gift shop, and you can even eat your own picnic food on site (not inside the cafe, there is a separate area!)Please note!!!!!!- There are a few very graphic sculptures and pictures in the gallery upstairs that shows in detail where babies come from. If you haven't yet had this conversation with your children, avoid at all costs this area. They WILL know how childbirth works after this exhibit.

We had our wedding ceremony at the Hepworth and it was fantastic. From the beginning, Alice was organised and incredibly helpful during the lead up to the day. On the day, all the staff members were professional and provided a 10/10 service. The canapés were delicious and the chef even designed bespoke canapé boards for any guests with allergies. For anyone wanting to get married somewhere a little bit different - we couldn’t recommend it enough!

This is a very well run gallery of modern art and especially sculptures. Barbara Hepworth and Henry Moore feature, but there are many other contributors. I toured the 10 galleries and was impressed. Then I went into the garden and admired the planting. Some very interesting plants (I wish they were labelled). Afterwards, inspired by one of the paintings in the gallery, I visited the Bridge Chapel. This was open and very interesting to visit. Still in use for worship and looked after by a volunteer organisation.

Enjoyed the museums collections. Garden still looked good at the end of October. Cafe and shop both had a good selection. A great stop off on the way down the M1.
