Update: since posting my original review, my deposit has now been returned.THIS COMPANY TOOK A DEPOSIT FROM ME AND DID NOT TURN UP TO DO THE JOB. DEPOSIT HAS STILL NOT BEEN RETURNED AND THE JOB HAS NOT BEEN DONE 2.5 MONTHS LATER.George from Peppas Carpentry came to my property to quote for a job to affix some skirting. After he provided a quote he pressured me into paying a deposit (despite it not being the kind of job that would usually warrant a deposit). I eventually paid the deposit after negotiating it down from a 50% deposit to a 15% deposit. We arranged a date and ,ahead of the date, George came to collect some paint so that he could pre-paint the skirting. On the day he was due to do the job, he did not arrive and ignored my calls and texts all morning until he eventually responded via whatsapp to say that he would not be able to attend that day because the skirting had not dried. I gave him the benefit of the doubt and rearrange a new date. On the new date, he did not attend and again ignored my calls and texts that morning and then he eventually responded to say that he was in hospital. I started to feel nervous about him but I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt and rearrange the date. On the 3rd arranged date, George once again failed to turn up, this time saying he had broken down on the motorway. At this point it was clear that George was not being truthful so I asked him to cancel the job and return my deposit. He said that he would do so on multiple occasions but he has still not returned my deposit and he still has 2 tins of paint that I purchased, costing £45 each.On his CheckaTrade account (which has now been closed), I saw another person complain of a similar experience where George took their deposit and did not do the job.Be careful of this company.

Repeated Issues with Peppas Carpentry – Unreliable & UnresponsiveI hired Peppas Carpentry for a bar installation and other carpentry work in my home. The agreement was made on August 13, 2023, with a clear deadline set before my travel on September 25. A deposit of £1080.00 was promptly paid for materials. Unfortunately, the experience has been deeply disappointing due to numerous missed deadlines, lack of communication, and unfulfilled promises. The initial installation dates were missed, and subsequent rescheduling led to further delays. My attempts to communicate were often met with silence or last-minute excuses, ranging from illness to personal issues. The job was initially scheduled for September 2023, but it was continuously postponed with various excuses, including personal issues and unresponsiveness on the part of the company. As of December 2023, the job remains incomplete, my deposit is still with Peppas Carpentry, and I have had to seek alternative carpenters to do the work. This situation has caused significant inconvenience, given that the work was initially planned around important work and family events.I am now in a position where I urgently need the deposit returned to hire a replacement carpenter. Despite a letter before action and clear communication of my needs, George at Peppas Carpentry has not responded appropriately. I have sent a letter before action to which George has sent a Whatsapp (on the deadline date) again stating he’s abroad and unwell, back in the UK next week and will “sort everything out” to which I’ve asked for my deposit back and nearly a week later, my message remains unread with no details on my deposit.I also want to highlight that my experience is not unique. Other customers have reported similar disappointments with Peppas Carpentry, including unmet commitments, poor communication, and difficulties in getting deposits returned. These repeated patterns suggest a systemic issue within the company that potential customers should be aware of. Steer clear at all costs.

I've had the same experience as the last reviewer. Seems I got caught in this a month prior. Sigh.George has also taken a deposit and it has been 4 months and still the job hasn't been completed. He gave me two sets of installation dates and all he does is cancel on the first day and then continues to delay. First time around saying his daughter was in hospital (slight change of story to the last reviewer, as it's the daughter and not himself). Then second time around he said he'd explain and of course he hasn't.George does not answer my calls. He also ignores my messages and does not read them for days and weeks. He still has my deposit and I now intend on taking legal action.DO NOT USE THIS COMPANY
