Audio Centre Croydon

My 1974 Nikko STA-8080 Receiver had been up in the attic for more than 20 years and was in poor shape but Shaun of Richer Sounds Bromley recommended I take it to the Audio Centre Croydon which I did and they completed a fantastic job in bringing it back to it's original condition. A job well done at reasonable cost!

This Man gave me a hugely over priced estimate for the repair of my vintage amplifier. Ridiculous. I got a second quote at a 10th, yes a TENTH of the cost, which I proceeded with.The repair man was condescending and didn't like my questioning his very expensive quote! Giving one star is too many.AVOID.

Absolutely fantastic experience thank you! Brought in my parents ancient Sony music centre (precious memories..) - turntable faulty, cassette deck dead - Alfonso and Tricia went out of their way to book it in and handle it carefully - rapid detailed diagnosis by email in a couple of days but more importantly they were able to bring it back to fully operational order - and rounded it off with a comprehensive handover - delighted - very rare to find such service and real expertise to resolve issues - we will be back with other 'un-mendable' items - for us to use and as legacy for our kids!

I had a broken volume switch on my Technics amp and I took it to Alfonso and a week later it was returned to me fixed.I’m so pleased with his work and would recommend Croydon audio centre to anyone.Many thanks Alfonso. Adrian Chapman

This man gave me a huge estimate of £900 and charged me £50 for it. I took it to another repair shop for a second opinion. It was fixed (and serviced) within a day for £150.The Audio centre is blatantly ripping people off.He was a rude and condescending person too.AVOID !

A fabulous service from Alfonso. Took a 30 year old tuner/amp (maybe older) into Alfonso on the Friday morning. By the afternoon he had diagnosed the problem, given us two quotes for just repair OR repair and a service. Took the latter quote as our amp had never been serviced from new. Picked it up on the Monday morning. The sound is phenomenal from it now. We are over the moon with this service and would highly recommend him.

I recently had a speaker repaired after breaking a speaker terminal, as well as my turntable serviced. Alfonso repaired the speaker perfectly, and also serviced my turntable which sounds much improved. I was very pleased to have found Croydon Audio Centre after the speaker was damaged, and am enjoying the hifi now it’s all working well again.

I have been in this over filled awful shop 3 times over the past 12 years. Immediately the older gentleman was coming across as rude and lacks any good customer service skills. I went in the shop with intention of buying some hifi equipment. I was instructed not to step foot beyond a certain point and told off for wearing my small back pack. He basically told me to go to Richer Sounds whilst ushering me to the door. His loss as I'm spending £1000 just up the road. He was also rude to my father who is a life long hifi collect and audio engineer. He should retire and give up his shop.

The proprietor has excellent product knowledge and first class technical skill in vintage stereo repairs. My 41 year old AKAI Amplifier and Turntable are working better than ever. He even cleaned the turntable which had suffered years of neglect due to the absence of a dust cover.However,for balancing the Turntable, fitting and purchasing a new cartridge, lubricating and servicing the amplifier cost me £505.(Turntable still not in full working order) Due to part no longer being available (apparently).Good value? I think not. Sentiment will get the better of us in this delightful shop of technical nostalgia and the excitement of hearing warm sincere vinyl will blind us to the questionable costs.Tried to sell me a pair of Technics Speakers for £4000 and was reluctant to let me know the model number so I could cross reference his valuation.Not my idea of honest, transparent or trustworthy. Questionable customer service, debatable integrity, but for the most part a magnificent audio technician. I suppose when you are this good at what you do customer service is an unnecessary part of the job and you can charge what you like to trusting excitable clueless enthusiastic customers.Such a shame, this could/should be a gem of a business that would see my custom on a regular basis and that I'd recommend to my friends.The search for a good vintage audio equipment suppliers and technicians continues.

Based on a personal recommendation, I took my cherished Quad system in which was intermittently failing one channel. I had to pay £150 (£50 per unit - preamp, amp amd tuner) to get a quote. I was told the fault could not be located. I was also told the units had been modified (which they hadn't). They have been family owned from new and only ever serviced by Quad or a Quad specialist. And when I picked up my units, they no longer worked at all. Refused to take any reponsibility or refund. Will never take anything to this man again.
