The Gym Group Burton upon Trent
So I’ve been going to the gym in Burton for over 3 years now and I can say it’s probably the best budget gym I’ve been to. The atmosphere, friendly environment, very friendly staff, especially Vilte, I believe she is the manager now, she’s always positive and super enthusiastic, and always happy to help. From teaching a class to general housekeeping duties, she does it all. Definitely would recommend the gym to friends and family. Keep up the great work

Joined today after speaking to a young lady on Tuesday and James today, who was extremely helpfully. Great gym, plenty of professional machines so no waiting, great selection of weights. Nice atmosphere, aircon , people were friendly and it was clean. First impressions were very good and I enjoyed my workout.

People do not put things back where they should be, there is never anyone to manage that either. There are rules but no one to enforce them. Members who pay the same as other customers are expected to move from areas where they do a class, there should be a room for that which doesn't force customers paying the same to leave an area in an already busy gym. There is often litter, which isn't the fault of the gym and bins are provided but no regular maintenance. Decals peeling off the walls. I have observed classes and no participant is ever given any guidance, they are just allowed to continue without getting any feedback on form which is a safety issue and also does not give them the benefits that you would hope for from a class. The person holding the class also didn't actually do the exercise themselves so no demonstration, which given they don't even provide feedback, is strange. Equipment is on occasion not positioned correctly (parts hitting other machines when in use, not allowing for proper extension) and there have been issues with spring-loaded pins that could have resulted in injury. For a continuously rising price, it is disappointing.

To give some background, I have previously had memberships with approximately more than 40 gyms across the country and well over 10 years experience in this field all the way to competition level.I have been to many gyms in my years as a personal trainer and more than often just for solo training and seldom have I ever felt the need to leave a review, unless it was a good one. However, this gym I will make an exception for.The fact I even have to rate this gym one star pains me enough.Where do I start? First of all if you're looking for a gym where you sign up online and subsequently arrive excited for your first session and enjoy being stuck waiting before the barriers and looking clueless and unsure of what to do in front of everybody training from the other side of the glass. Then look no further! You will find that even when you press the button from the outside to hopefully alert a member of staff for some assistance, no member of staff is going to be attentive or even look in your direction to assist you, purely out of inconvenience. If you are a nervous first timer, or understandably rather anxious about starting a new gym experience, then allow me to be candid; this gym is NOT for you! Please, take my advice and allow me to save you any trauma. (You're welcome).Next lets discuss the staff. The two males who work there seemed to do a decent job, they were always polite and answered any questions if I ever had any. However, the so called 'manager' on the other hand, is extremely rude and confrontational. I have asked for her assistance on a number of occasions in which I received either a rude, or extremely condescending response.I requested her name so I could speak to someone above her about her discourteous manner, she refused to give me any details and informed me that nobody was higher than her.Anybody with any logical sense of a business operation would understand that this statement simply isn't true. She has received very poor training as a so called manager, especially in communication and customer service. Further training is required on her part; in fact I'd go as far as to say further training is essential. To digress from the poorly trained manager, be prepared to arrive at the gym on any given day to a note stuck on the door explaining that it is closed for three days due to refurbishment. (No, these days of closure will not be reflected in your monthly payments and you will not receive any reparations or reductions in your monthly debit for this). The only email I received that month was to let me know that the membership will be going up in price. So essentially, they can communicate when money is a factor. When arriving back at the gym after three days, there was no new equipment or any kind of refurbishment that would benefit a paying member for a loss of three days membership. Finally, the car park.I received two parking tickets through the post once arriving back from my holiday, they do not send these tickets out in a rush from the date of the offence. It is approximately two weeks or more after the offences, giving you only a day or so before the fine increases to £100.I contacted the 'manager' about this; she condescendingly informed me that it wasn't her problem and to deal with it myself and that I should have validated my parking for ONE extra hour. She informed me that she would not email the car park company and cancel the fines for me.Bear in mind, when being a member of the Gym Group in Tamworth, I received a parking ticket and the manager in this facility sent an email to the car park provider informing them that I was using their services and cancelled it for me immediately and told me not to worry. What a difference between managers! So, after arriving back from a holiday I was £200 down and the management were not interested in the slightest, other than making a few condescending comments. To conclude, avoid this gym at all costs. The membership is slightly cheaper than others for a reason!

I really like the place. I've been to lots of gyms in the past however the staff here are really helpful and make me feel welcome. In addition to this, they have plenty of equipment so very little waiting around. I can't fault it and would recommend to anyone.

The GM is very professional and she goes above and beyond to ensure that members have a good experience, supported by the new AGM who is also friendly. The place is kept tidy and the equipment is in good condition.Could do with another set of powerlifting weights.Overall a decent gym after being a member for many years now and using gyms in the south east and London, the GM runs a tight ship.
