Like most high street banks, Barclays Bank isn't particularly interested in its private customers. They only have counter service for four hours a day and the staff on the floor don't appear to be knowledgeable or interested in what they are doing. You get the impression that if the bank could shut its branches and do everything via their app, they would.

I have visited this branch weekly for the past 2 years. Staff are generally available to help which is not my reason for giving 2*...On almost every visit to date, there has been a fault with AT LEAST one machine. Over time this becomes very frustrating; messages such as 'currently this machine is out of order...this machine is unable to complete your request...this machine currently will not accept coins/notes...' the list goes on! I don't blame shop floor staff, although I have spoken to the on two of my visits and they say they give feedback to head office - BARCLAYS HEAD OFFICE...seriously, do something with your machine software!!!

Good afternoon!Hope you are all well! I am writing to inform pretty much everybody about the behavior of Barclays Bank. Barclays has just lost the trust and reputation that this bank is unsafe and unsecured! The case is: I used a P2P trading platform to exchange my cryptocurrency into pounds. P2P is quite simple; the buyer who wishes to buy crypto sends me money (in this case, to my Barclays Bank account), and then I release and transfer the cryptocurrency to them. However, the situation is that, within 24 hours after the transaction, my bank account was frozen, placed under investigation, and I was asked to provide more details about the transaction. I provided all the details about this transaction, explaining that it is a P2P transaction, with proofs and the order number of the transaction. After waiting for a while, they unfroze my account. However, there was no money; they took it all out, claiming it was a decision by the fraud department. So, I went to a branch and started to ask what happened. Members of Barclays said that the case was initiated by the person who paid me pounds in exchange for crypto. In conclusion, they took my money out, sent it back to the person who purchased the crypto, leaving him with cryptocurrency and the funds he paid for the crypto—a win-win situation for him. For me, it was a loss of funds, leaving me with £0 in my account with the professional help of the Barclays Bank department. It is most likely that the person who paid for the crypto said he had been scammed to gain crypto for free, and Barclays believed him, not believing me even though I provided all proofs and details of this transaction. It's a smart scheme protecting scammers by Barclays! According to their logic, I can go to a Rolex store, purchase watches for £10,000, return to the bank, say they scammed me for £10,000, and get a refund—having £10,000 in cash and watches worth £10,000.I don't believe in this bank and advise everybody not to use any service or open a bank account with Barclays. They can take all of your money out using pretty much the same method as they took money from me, not only in crypto P2P transactions. I have studied financial economics and know that banks mostly rely on the trust of their customers, so do not trust this bank; your money can be taken out at any second by the bank itself! Moreover as they saying that “we have a right not to provide any details regarding this transaction” so … outcome taking money out of thee account, with no explanation and no further documented responds proving their action!I would strongly advise not to use this bank and strongly advise everybody that I know not to use this bank because it is unsafe, trustless, and useless! In this branch people quite professional and they have understood the reason of a complaint, but this complain is directly to the barclays fraud department, which is taking peoples money out and not providing any reasons

Another bank closed by a company who only cares about profitability and not the community. What about all of us who are too old to do banking on line? Where's the cash point gone? There aren't enough words to describe what I think about banks who only cater for themselves and not the customers! Admittedly this comment is about Sudbury branch but is appropriate to many other towns. Despicable.

The bank is in a lovely old building on Colchester High Street, it has two entrances, the one in the back has a ramp for prams & wheelchairs as the front High Street does not.The staff are extremely helpful & accomodating, they ask what it is your wanting to do in the bank, then they show you where to go & they give a helping hand if required to work out the paying in computers. You may have to queue at busy times as they only let in a certain amount of people due to the Corona virus.Otherwise it's a quick in & out....Regards Justine xXx

On Friday 6th August I was required to visit your branch with a rather serious problem. My card had been blocked and as I was over 360 miles from home I was most concerned how I was going to pay my hotel bill plus I was attending a reunion event with a unit I had served in 1965. After explaining my proplem Ayden Doyle sat me down and then spent almost 3 hours sorting it all out. He was by far the most pleasant and reassuring gentleman both by his business and personal Truly an asset to any team and an associate to be proud to know. Thank you once again for you diligence. Yours Faithfully. Alex Anderson (Carlisle)

After not being able to book an appointment to open my children a bank account online we decided to go into the branch. We had about a ten minute wait to be told the nearest appointment would be nearly two months away. There was a large queue and only three members of staff and a few disgruntled customers. I thought it would be easier to use Barclays to open children's accounts given that me and my husband bank there but I was very wrong. We walked up the road to Metro bank and opened the accounts there and then no appointment needed and we even got their debit cards the same day.
