The bike tour with Johann was the highlight of our trip! Saw more of Scotland than we've ever seen before. Renting bikes is an option, but having Johann as a guide was a bonus. We saw so many things and went on trails that I'm sure we could never have found on our own. Riding through tunnels was so much fun. We rode for 6 hours, which was a breeze with the e-bikes! Lots of stops available for pictures, snacks and bathroom. Johann is a down to earth guy. It seemed like hanging out with an old friend.

We did a 4 hour bike tour around Edinburgh and Johann was the absolute best! He was extremely knowledgeable, patient, fun to be around and all around just knew we were in good hands. Can’t imagine there being a better bang for your buck if you really want to see the city and get a good workout in (even though we did e bikes, you can turn off the electronic function). Will absolutely use again when I’m back and recommend to anyone going to Scotland

My mother, girlfriend, and I had a wonderful experience with Johann and the Tartan Bicycle Company (Tartan Bike Tours) in the Scottish Highlands, Sept 2023. Johann picked us up at our accommodation in his red support van, provided all the necessary cycling gear (outside of clothing), and drove us 2-hrs north of Edinburgh to Pitlochry. He is a capable and thoughtful guide, supporting us with guidance (pre-programmed Garmin), food, and repairs (flats happens). Tartan offers a good selection of bicycles from e-bikes for mom (64F) to speedier options for me (33M). He mentioned he will also have Gravel Bikes for rent. There are some really nice trails in that area for all sorts of cycling enthusiasts and Johann offered insightful knowledge of many different options. There was one section of trail where Johann rode with us for a bit to help us ford a small mudslide blocking the path. He is truly connected to the trails and has good feeling/experience to anticipate any issues that may arise. Can't say thanks enough, we had an amazing experience and enjoyed ourselves tremendously. Johan is the nicest man. He shows you everything and explains everything. The whole tour ran so smooth and easy. He was so accommodating. I would do it again just to hang out with Johan and hear his stories.

Renting bikes from theTartan Bicycle Company was the best decision we made when planning our bike trip to the Outer Hebrides. We had been debating about flying with our own bikes from the USA and Spain in order to do this two week trip. However, when we found out how easy and economical it was to rent bikes from the Tartan Bike Company we completely changed our minds. Johann was extremely helpful in finding the right fit of bikes for each of the members in our group. He also went out of his way to send us tips about creating a bike repair kit. This helped put all of us at ease as we prepared for this epic adventure!On the first day of our trip, Johann brought the bikes, helmets and bags directly to our hostel which made it so easy for us to get started right away. He also was kind to change out our pedals as we preferred to use clipless pedals for the journey. Besides this, the quality of the bikes and panniers were fantastic! They were very sturdy and dependable and this led to a carefree journey as we rode in all sorts of weather.At the end of our trip, he picked up the bikes as soon as we arrived into town which meant we were free to explore the city without needing to find a place to store the bikes or worry about packing them up to bring back to the USA and Spain. As one can imagine, this peace of mind allowed us to enjoy the marvelous city of Edinburgh and end our trip on a high note. Thank you Johann for providing such care and professionalism so we could have the unforgettable experience of biking in the Outer Hebrides!

We had a great tour of Edinburgh from Johann! Super nice and knowledgeable about the area. Bikes were good quality and well maintained! About 17 miles total with a few good but manageable climbs.

We rented bikes and kits from Johann for our trip up the Northumberland coast to Edinburgh. It was a fantastic experience all around. Very excellent communicator, brought our bikes to Newcastle and we cycled them back to Edinburgh. Overall it was such an easy experience - I can only hope we can find someone like him for wherever we cycle next. HIGHLY recommend.

This tour is a must. I would 1000% recommend and would do again given the chance. Johann is super friendly and very knowledgeable, which makes it to where you just can't get bored. And if you feel like you won't be able to make it up some hills, I promise you the E" part of the e-bike will make you feel like your legs have the strength of an Olympic Cyclists.To begin

We had an wonderful experience renting bikes for a week on our trip through the Highlands. Johan was friendly and accommodating, and the bikes are recent models in excellent condition. We would absolutely rent bikes from Tartan again, and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to others.
