Trent Basin

A good location, for this interesting housing development, bringing up an area by the river that had become severely neglected. But a fundamental flaw is the way this development has been designed, with total dependance upon the car. Trying to walk anywhere is just awful. Billed as a community, but no alternative but to drive in and drive out. Electric points built into the fabric of every house, with cars parked on every frontage, driving over pavements to get there, leaving very poor provision for safe footpaths, & creating a nightmare for visually impaired or blind people, while if this is a community, where are the community gathering spots? a corner shop, a community building, a cafe, a gallery, a school a library, an information/ support point? There are none. The Trent Basin is cut off, with its depresing entry from Colwick Loop road and Trent Lane the only way in. It appears that environmental concerns don't stretch to the simple no-negative, all positive impact of walking. Something very old fashioned about the thinking here, dreamed up too long ago to take on board the latest environmental impact thinking, and wellbeing. Trees, & grenary areas are v small, just window dressing, never mind how all this car use is offset. This desperately needs sorting out, and should have been written into the DNA of this development, not an afterthought. Access to the river needs sorting out, and even the existing footpath from the end of Trent Lane south along the river is currently closed, - it's a building site. Could have been wonderful, but blighted by blinkered planning.
