Kats and Dogs - Dog Training and Pet Behaviour

Kat is a great trainer to work with! She is super friendly and very approachable. She always made time for us, no matter how small the problem or how stupid the question, she was always there for us.Having recently brought up a puppy herself, she was full of great tips and real life advice to make those first weeks go smoothly and set the puppy up for success using modern force free training techniques. She understands that theory and reality are not always the same and helped us end up with a wonderful dog that is a joy to live with and take places. Thanks for all your help Kat!

I went to a pet first aid training session organised by Kats and Dogs on 21.09.2019, which was held by a vet nurse for a small group of 8 people. It was extremely interesting and all the information (in case of traffic accidents, poisoning, seizures...) and practical training (emergency muzzling and bandaging) provided were accessible to pet owners with no advanced medical knowledge. It was very useful and would probably help me avoid having a complete meltdown if my pets were to have an accident or accidental poisoning. I now feel better equipped to deal with these eventualities. Kat welcomed all of us warmly to the training session, and the food provided was really good too :) We even got a certificate at the end. I would encourage anyone who owns a pet or take care of pets on a regular basis to take a pet first aid class, and I definitely recommend Kats & Dogs.

We have recently undertaken the Kats & Dogs ‘Teenage Terrors’ group class with our 18-month-old, Cay. The course has been extremely helpful in providing insights into his behaviour, giving tools to help shape it positively, and providing a useful range of training techniques and games.The group class setting provided a positive support Network, and we could share our successes and experiences on the WhatsApp group. The online training went smoothly, and we appreciated the flexibility, with the ability to participate in either of the two sessions per week offered, and the way that Kat helps to build a team feel with the other people on the course.Kat takes a real interest in the dogs and their home environments, and a significant proportion of the training was personalised to their specific needs and challenges. It really was like a ‘personal trainer’ relationship, in which the training and explanations are tailored to our needs.Highly recommended for anyone with a ‘teenage terror’ who wants help in understanding their dogs better, improving the relationship/enjoyment, and helping them be safe.

Kat is a wonderful trainer, both of our pup Miley as well as us as first-time dog owners! She's upbeat, patient and always on-hand for any questions you might have during and even after sessions. Miley *loves* her, and Kat has done a wonderful job breaking down the approaches to take with working on her development. We're all learning! Cannot recommend Kat enough!

Kat is brilliant! I was working with Kat over Zoom during the lockdown to help us with our very anxious and fearful rescue pup and couldn’t recommend her highly enough. She recorded each session so I could review everything I needed, so helpful! Kat's gentle and positive approach to dog training helped us raise a puppy who is not only very responsive and smart, but also incredibly happy! We are grateful to Kat for this outcome and we warmly recommend her!

Kat was really great! We hired her duing lockdown for 3 sessions with our puppy who needed help with his training as we were unable to attend puppy school. Because of lockdown, we did our sessions via video call where Kat broke each session into two, one info based training lesson, followed a few days later by a practical chat where we could show our achievements (or not) and we could all work on practical techniques moving forward. We found this way of working really helpful as our learnings could be applied over time rather than in one intensive session. Kat was a pleasure to work with and we found the training incredibly valuable. The constant out-of-lesson support she offered was so helpful to address any small worries we had along the way. Would highly recommend!

I would like to send a big thank you to Kat, I contacted her as I wanted a better understanding of our gorgeous kitten, Ace and to have a relationship with him. Before my session with Kat I could not even go near Ace, but after a lovely lengthy discussion, and Kat answering all my questioning and positively reinforcing me to go next to Ace I was holding and carrying him by the end of our first session. I was extremely happy with our session as it went even better than myself and family thought it would go just after one session. Thank you so much Kat.

We have recently completed the Superpups class with Kat and out puppy Annie. I wasn’t really sure how well a Zoom class would work but it was really good. There was no pressure on our puppy because she was at home. If she was asleep for an activity we could just let her sleep and practice the activity later. We got lots of great advice and information. Thank you Kat!

We joined one of Kat’s Teenage Terrors course for our young beagle. Given changing restrictions it was on Zoom. This worked really well - it provided flexibility if we weren’t at home and allowed us to revisit lessons too. A lot of the teenage specific training Kat would introduce and then immediately help us with the variations suited to our dog’s needs and our situation - so even if we’d done the basic version of the “trick” before - we then learnt how to extend it and apply to be useful in real world challenges. Another great part of this series was having that scheduled weekly time to do something together with the dog, and have chance to discuss and get advice on our latest ups and downs of owning a teenage dog! I’d definitely consider signing up to even the same course again since we’d still get value out of the advice, structure and focus!!

As new pup parents in lockdown Kat's guidance and support has been invaluable and without these classes we would not have the happy, well socialised, well mannered pup we now have. Kat's been extremely generous with her advice outside of class time and we've learned so much along the way. We've really enjoyed the group experience as well!
