a lovly little rly. may be on the small size for most folks taste but has variety int locos & stock. !! ww1 events are well worth going to as they usually have millitary reenactments of some kind. either int trenches or the period vehicles running around. !!

We had amazing time in this little place. We paid £8 for a family of 4. It was a short trip on the steam train. However kids really enjoyed the way the train moved, loved the steam.Got beautiful pictures around the steam engine. The staff are very friendly and helpful. They happily chat with children, which makes the experience even better. :)

Went to Apedale for the Halloween ride, bit of a que as the ride is a decent length. Staff entertaining the que was good.Ride itself is fun, maybe needed more surprises. The main one was great though. Overall good, will be back.

A charming and delightful experience. The rebuilt Silverdale station, ex North Staffordshire Railway, is the starting point, with an excellent bookstore and souvenir shop, from where one catches a train, steam hauled on Saturdays, down the valley to Apedale Road, the starting point of a nice hike into the country park. The train trip passes the engine shed and sidings where many locomotives and rolling stock reside, and a tour can be arranged by request.Continuing on into the valley, the line skirts a wooded hillside before the landscape opens out and Apedale Road is reached. A picnic area here is a peaceful place to eat and watch the trains. The locomotive runs round the train, connecting to the other end, before we commence the journey back to Silverdale. On certain days there is an industrial field railway in operation, with freight trains going off in another direction, giving the railway an extremely busy feel. The staff are extremely friendly, and all are volunteers. As well as the railway, a mining museum, cafe, and the multitude of footpaths leading off into the country park, a huge attraction to anyone who loves walking, wildlife and the tranquility of nature, are enough to give a quality day out for all the family. The railway plans to extend into the valley, to Burley Shales, doubling the journey, in the near future, which will improve an already enchanting experience. The hills, pools, woodland, and the echo of the locomotives steaming by with their clattering trains, is like a holiday from the stresses of everyday life.(My own photographs included in review)

Beautiful place for walking or cycling on the pathways through the woods. The family had a great day out walking the dogs. We also went on the train but were disappointed as the ride was EXTREMELY short.

We had a fabulous day, Always amazes me how much effort goes into running these attractions... my young daughter loved the ride on the train and I enjoyed walking around the classic cars..

Lovely narrow gauge railway. We went on a Saturday on a special event day. Plenty of parking, with disabled parking near the entrance. £8 per adult and £4 per child. Fee includes return trip on the train a d access to engine sheds etcThe museum is free as well as the reproduction WW1 trench. Lots of steam trains running. All run by volunteers. The restaurant/cafe is excellent value for money, and tasty too.Well worth a visit with children of all ages and especially interesting for the train enthusiasts.
